Hello. I'm not sure I am posting in the right place. I have a problem with prescription medications. I take too many pills and use up a months supply of pills in less than a week. I am quitting doing this but the temptation is always there. I abuse Opana (a narcotic pain pill), Ambien, Zyrem and Soma. I make myself just sleep my life away and I don't want to do this anymore. I have cirrhosis of the liver from Hep C and I am always tired but I make things worse by abusing drugs. I just zone out and I am very ashamed.

Do you have any advise on how to get started with this program? Do we work on different steps together? And how do I find out what the different steps are? Thank you for listening. Take care. Donna

Welcome Donna! I know just how you feel. I'm still very new to recovery myself (about a week and a half) but the way I got started was I looked up a local meeting in my area using this site:

http://portaltools.na.org/portaltools/MeetingLoc/

and I've gone almost everyday since.
Get to a meeting as soon as you can! I'm sure some of the members who have been around much longer can give you more advice, I just wanted to let you know how I got started. My thoughts and prayers are with you!

Hi Donna, and welcome. NA can help you find freedom from active addiction.

I think Keli's got it right: the best to get started is to attend local meetings.

Take good care.

Hi Donna I have been off the pills for almost nine months now. If I can do it, so can you!

Welcome Donna,

keep coming back and sharing with us.

Also check out the online meetings here every night at 10 PM EST.

I have found that no matter what my drug of choice was - alcohol, marijuana, heroine, cocaine, pills etc. - through NA we can find freedom from using and that WE DO RECOVER! All we need is a desire to stop using (any drug)...

NA Hugs and Fellowship Love,

Tahir.
