I prayed to my HP for guidance

Last night I prayed to my HP for guidance, a message, a sing. (I'm very superstitious). Yesterday was a day of dwelling on my wrongs, fiending and feeling shame and a total lack of inability to function. My 2yr old just grabbed this book from I have no idea where and opened it to this!

THE CORRECT ATTITUDE TOWARD PAST WRONGS

Avoid dwelling on all the wrong things you have done. They do not belong to you now.

Let them be forgotten. It is attention that creates habit and memory. As soon as you put the needle on the phonograph record it begins to play.

Attention is the needle that plays the record of past actions.

So you should not put your attention on bad ones.

Why go on suffering over the inwise actions of you past?

Cast their memory from your mind, and take care not to repeat those actions again.

"Forget the past" [Sri Yukteswar said]. "The vanished lives of all men are dark with many shames. Human conduct is ever unreliable until man is anchored in the Divine. Everything in the future will improve if you are making a spiritual effort now." PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA

Thank You HP

Jenny

Once you become aware things begin to be brought to us that we cannot ignore, the wonder is where they come from and I believe it's a loving HP even angels and spirits, God is a spirit so he might directly be the one, not too much i'm sure of but one thing I am is I feel a presence of love in my life not just from people but from another being.

The past *sigh* thats something that has to be let go of and we need to live in the this day this moment, if we go back theres nothing positive that comes from staying in the hurt, pain, regret, remorse what we need to do is change who we are and how we act today and not repeat hurtful things, I struggle with this also but am getting better at it I just don't STAY in it all as long and take the WISDOM that comes from those experiences and use them towards today.

Blessings ......

To add one thing I pray to my HP is " Thankyou for what i have today, and for what I don't have" this makes me greatful for all things in my life today, and I am humbled.

Heres todays "Just for Today" This is SO TRUE it happens ....

Vision Without Limits

"Perhaps for the first time, we see a vision of our new life."

Basic Text pg. 34

In our addiction, our vision of ourselves was very limited. Each day, we went through the same routine: getting, using, and finding ways and means to get more. And that's all we could reasonably expect for the duration of our lives. Our potential was limited.

Today, our prospects are changed. Recovery has given us a new vision of ourselves and our lives. We are no longer trapped in the endlessly gray routine of addiction. We are free to stretch ourselves in new ways, trying out new ideas and new activities. In doing so, we come to see ourselves in a new way. Our potential is limited only by the strength of the Higher Power that cares for us - and that strength has no limits.

In recovery, life and everything in it appears open to us. Guided by our spiritual principles, driven by the power given us by the God of our understanding, our horizons are limitless.

Just for today: I will open my eyes to the possibilities before me. My potential is as limitless and as powerful as the God of my understanding. Today, I will act on that potential.

pg. 353

Thanks Jenny for that quote from the famous Yogi. I have read a lot of Yogananda's books too, and have benefited immensely from them.

Also, with the help of the 12 Steps of Narcotics Anonymous, the past doesn't have to remain in the dark at all, and the shame associated with the past doesn't have to live with us too. Today, I can heal and purify myself of the past too. And the spiritual effort I make today to improve my future is by practising the NA program Just For Today.

Hi Jenny,

i always love hearing from you that is a wonderful post and makes it so simple to understand. i've been using the story of Lots wife lately. to do the same thing. trying to keep myself from going back there in my thinking. HP told Lots family to not look back at the city that He was going to distroy. But she just couldn't help looking back and because of that , she was turned into a pillar of salt....

i don't want to turn into a pillar of salt. i don't want to be tempted by the past. there is nothing there that i need now. Sheree said something like "I can not control my first thought , but i am responsible for my second one."

i am getting so many helpful tools through all of you here. thank you all for sharing and helping me grow into a better person you are all so important to my recovery.

your friend in recovery ...peggy

hi everyone. i'd like to share what happened this afternoon

after i posted here i went for a nap. and i had a wonderful dream...it was and not-using dream

in my dream i was with a group of people and i wondered into a room where  others were using when i realized what they were doing i turned tail and ran out of the house.   a soon as you put the needle on the phonograph record it begins to play. today it was playing a new tune.

i didn't stop to think i just followed my new instincts. like kids being taught to stop, drop, and roll if they caught on fire , that is how it was for me in this dream.

this was only a dream and not a real test of how i would do if it really happened , but it give me hope that i just might pass such a test. i believe if i hadn't been reading your posts my dream might not of turned out so well....thank you for sharing so that i can grow and learn...wishing everyone a sweet dreams too...humbly yours ...peggy

Thanks Peggy for sharing your dream with us. It always helps to have a dream where we do the right thing when in a slippery situation. It usually tells me that I am working well on my foundations of recovery to a level where it is deeply supplanted in my consciousness.

Not to say that using dreams mean that I am heading for a relapse or something like that. But using dreams always give me an opportunity to reflect where I could be lacking in my efforts still, or have become complacent lately in my recovery, and thus, get back to working and strengthening the basics again...
