Just Wondering/Curious

Hi Everyone,

I'm just wondering about a few things that I hope you might be able to give me some insight on.

My name is John, I am an addict as well as the founder/webmaster of Miracles In Progress 12 Step Recovery Forums.  I have been clean since 12/21/89.  I am very active in NA and AA in my community and have started a Recovery House here locally called Miracles In Progress.  I also have 2 small businesses, and am engaged to a beautiful lady.  I'll share more about me, my experience, strength and hope next time I post on the board here. For now, I'd like to ask a few questions of the group of people who post here regularly.

Two 2 years ago I was asked by another addict to add an NA group to this forum.  This would consist of a message board, a meeting/chat room, and a group home page.  I let all 12 Step members, who want a place on this forum that represents the 12 Step program they are aligned with, that in order for me to do this, I do require that group members be willing to monitor their message board for safety, and keeping in line with the 12 Traditions, inappropriate posting and/or replies that arn't in line recovery, etc.  Also, they have to be willing to attend and chair at least one scheduled meeting per week, and/or act as room monitors for the same issues stated above on the message board.  I also ask that those who consider this their online home group to attend a group business meeting in the room once a month.  I ask that group members submit links, material, ideas, short recovery stories that would be useful for the group home page. And lastly I ask that those willing to help offset the cost of such a site as this consider making a voluntary, annoymous donation to the site on occassion when it can be afforded and only the amount that each individual can afford.  Oops.. one more thing, that the group have a member willing to check the groups email account for recovery/group/organization related inquiries and reply to them in a timely, recovery based fashion.

Now, I have six (6) groups on this forum.  I can do my part in the background getting everything set up for each group. So that the groups information, meetings, etc is easily accessed and meetings opening and closing reading scipts run with just a few clicks of a mouse once group members are set up with the material needed to chair a meeting.  The message board can be open or closed/password protected or requiring approved registration, etc.

If you type "online narcotics anonymous meetings" into Google's search engine, you will find that I have done my part. Out of 19,100,000 possible search results Miracles In Progress NA Group is listed twice on the first page of results... number 4 & 5.  Our group message board has over 600 registered members on it, (this info is from bottom of message board page).  The Miracles In Progress 12 Step Recovery Forums Home page (as a whole) which provides links to each groups home page, message board, and meeting room, ect. stats are showing that the site is very active with 94,930 visitor hits in the past two years.

What I'm wondering about is this...

Why hasn't this group taken any responsibility for itself and become self supporting.  By self supporting I'm not taking about money here folks.  I'm talking about holding regularly scheduled meetings, with group members chairing them, the group gathering for chat between meetings a few hours a day, group members taking the role of message board and chat room monitors to make sure the material here is in line with NA, that the new comer doesn't enter an empty room when they already feel alone in the world?  Why no NA member has made any voluntary financial contribution in 2 years, why the NA group email account is not being tended to by a NA group member here, why NA members here are not submitting any material for consideration to be added to the groups home page, etc.

I'm wondering why after two years, when we have all the resources right here, right now, including over 600 registered members we are referring people to other sites for meetings, 12 step work blogs, ect.

I'm wondering why I spent so much time and effort putting this together for NA members and NA members arn't becoming active in utilizing what is here for the benefit of themselves or the newcomer as a 12 Step starting point that could strongly benefit everyone involved.

I'm wondering if after two years of evidence if NA members would even mind if I removed this material from the Miracles In Progress site due to its not being utilized, coordinated and monitored by NA members.

I mean, c'on folks, if this site is merely a place to give and get links to other sites that hold meetings, that provide online sponsorship for the newcomer, until they walk into their first f2f NA meeting and get an f2f NA sponsor, where there is a on line step work shop, etc... why don't I just post some links on the MIP web site to these other places and remove this groups material and the misrepresentation on internet search engines that any of this is available here?

I'm just wondering....

Is this group interested in remaining on the Miracles In Progress 12 Step Recovery Forums web site, and if so, who is willing to step up to the plate and help secure its presence here and do the service work in the areas outlined above?

Yours In the Spirit of Recovery and Love,

John F.

hey john,glad you are here.

alot of us found this sight,(i did through yahoo),didnt know we had access to a chatroom.i think it is awesome.the only ones that are aware of it are the ones that approach it through the aa extension.

i am sure if we could put a link here,or something letting folks know,it could revolutionize this sight.and some of us are sure to show up and chair meetings.

i make 4 face to face n.a. meetings a week, and do alot of sponsorship stuff, but i will volunteer to chair if we can make up a schedule.

the blogs were about doing non na aproved step work, and the ones involved all post here regularly,so it wont take from the sights strength.

like i have shared, none of us knew we had online meetings here.most of us go to earthgroup, just for today,na chat, etc

so i am willing to help.please let everyone know about the chat feature so we can get kicking.

thanks john

Greetings John,

First of all, I would like to identify myself as a Homegroup member here at Miracles In Progress Group. I'm Tahir, a grateful recovering addict from Banglore, India. I'm relatively new here, having been a part of this group from not more than a month, I guess. And have since stayed here, sharing and caring the NA Way.

The idea of online meetings here is awesome. I would definitely like to be a part of such meetings. And also am willing to share responsibilities in making these meetings possible here regularly.

I also did not know that there is a chatroom here for us. How do I access this chatroom? Also, getting together and discussing these issues at our MIP Group service meeting is a great idea too. Please let me know when we can have such a meeting here. I would love to be a part of MIP Group.

I would also definitely consider helping out with other webservices here at MIP, and get back to you soon regarding the same, maybe at our group business meeting here.

Thank you so much, John, for being of great service to all of us, by keeping this Group open and running. I'm grateful to my Higher Power that I have you in my recovery.

Hugs, Love, Light ~ Tahir.

Hey John thanks for all your hard work and time putting this all together its a great service you do and i'm sure it's somehow in someway helped you stay sober and give back what you've got.

My hope as a newcomer to this group and NA is that this particular place will grow since personally it's the first NA type site I found and posted to on the net .

I have gotten help and direction here from the guys that has help me hang on and stay sober for over a month now PLUS take a look at certain issues directly involved with my addiction including many hangups and snares with my personality and charecter.

So don't think it hasn't helped someone becasue your effort and the efforts of others here HAS helped me, just one lousy stinkin addict that is truly a MESS inside and out (at times) LOL.

Also like to add that when you mentioned having the recovery house my first thought was " Now he's looking to make some scratch$" (get rich) and I notice the prices you charged for people to stay and have to say I was wrong there is no way your making profit off that place, I've been to those houses and lived in them and at least here in california they are not cheap and the guys who own them GET RICH its a big business here.

I'm wondering if after two years of evidence if NA members would even mind if I removed this material from the Miracles In Progress site due to its not being utilized, coordinated and monitored by NA members.

So now you know and don't need to wonder we'll pull this together and give it a go, i'm going to be working alot more now since i'm getting ready to get my contractors license and my work schedule is going to grow but i'll gladly help anyway that I can and give a little more wherever it's needed.

Sincerely,
Vini
