I live in a small town in TN where we only have two NA meetings yet 13 AA meetings. I have been to 3 or 4 AA meetings and everyone seemed to be fine with me declaring myself as an addict. Tonight however a 69 year old fart asked to speak to me. He started drilling me about it was an AA not an NA meeting. I feel that he was trying to get me to admit to being an alcoholic when I am not. He asked that I try to identify myself in some other way than an addict. I dont know what to say....My name is Scott and I am ________________?
I've been in this situation many times before.
I respect AA's traditions and introduce myself as an alcoholic in AA meetings.
I have no problem calling myself an alcoholic because I did a lot of drinking in addition to my drugging, and if I didn't have any drugs, and relied in alcohol to get me off.
THE program only works if you are willing. If you are focred to go or say anything. Than that is not right. You are who you are. I'm an addict and I identify myself as one. AA allows anyone who is willing to be there be there. SOunds like that person is a nazi.
