Withdrawal/detox

I need some help and strength to get through this as it is basically where I am right now.  I had surgery last wednesday for my endometriosis (which causes me severe pain and is the reason I have an issue with prescription drugs) and I took my last pill this morning.  The pain is not so bad but because I have been on the meds for so long I am experiencing withdrawal symptoms... hot/cold chills, sweating, headache, random aches and pains, depression.  What do you do to get through that part of recovery without going completely insane?  It's so miserable at some points it makes me just want to give up, and I don't want to do that, I want my life back.  I could just really use some help from people who have btdt to figure out how to get through this part without just giving up :(

I have no experience with withdrawal from prescription pain meds. All I can say is hang in there! Maybe some others on the board have more to say. I do have experience with addiction. If you think you are an addict, going to meetings would be a good idea.

Many members have chosen a detox facitility when first going off opiates.
Others choose to do it outside a facility but with the help of other NA members.
Some things people do when detoxing is to drink lots of fluids, make nutritious smoothies,
be in constant contact with other recovering addicts, take walks, ride a bike, pray, and know that
the feelings will pass.
I wish you well.
Let us know how you make out.

Hello and WELCOME  to MIP! I am an addict named Mike...

As always we can only suggest things to try as most of us aren't Doctors. I will lift you up in prayer and as each day passes the withdrawal symptoms should start dissapating. Remembering the reason you are doing this'YOU WANT YOUR LIFE BACK" and knowing it will pass. Here is a little info  on someone in a similar situation  doing things that helped them...

Several years ago, I had to do a medical detox in order to come off of all of the opiates and things that I was taking. Below are the things that the hospital had done for me, and suggested that I do once I got home.
1. One of the biggest concerns with Opiate withdraw is seizures. Therefore, move any furniture away from your bed, and dont take a bath, just shower.
2. Stay away from caffeine (drinks and chocolate). Caffeine makes detoxing from Opiates more difficult.
3. Take allot of showers, hot or cold, it doesnt matter. Plus, you will smell better, especially after sweating so much.
4. You need to try and stay busy. You are not going to feel like it, but force yourself to exercise, play games, talk with friends, go to church, or do anything, as long as you stay busy.
5. In regards to the withdraw symptoms, you just have to treat them. For example:
A. For diarrhea, take Amodium AD or something.

Medical attention also is a strong option and their are clinics that can help if you so need.Let us know how your doing okay..My now 27 year old son, beat heroin withdrawal 2x while in jail but still struggled after as he wasn;t working any type of program for the other part of his addiction. The spiritual and mental aspect. If you are an addict,,an only you know that, we always suggest NA meetings and working with a sponsor to get to the root of any drug problem..Let us know how you are doing and hope to hear more from you

I've been going to meetings (three so far) and texted another member last night for advice. She got back to me quickly with some helpful advice and support and I honestly can't wait for my home meeting on Thursday. I also contacted my doctor's office for medical help to detox gradually instead of cold turkey and they were able to help me out (at first I thought they were not going to, and I'm not going to lie, yesterday was hellish). I feel so much better today and I know I can do this with the tools I have. Thanking God for understanding doctors, friends who have been there and done that and don't judge, the fact that I have LOTS AND LOTS of blankets (to counter chills which are one of the worst effects I get... chills then sweating, over and over). Thanks all for your prayers and positive thoughts.

Glad you're making it to meetings. Keep going and don't use. It gets better.
