JFT March 7 Priorities

I have slaked off in my meetings , but I will always remember the hell hole of a life I had as a addict. I call my sponsor at least once a week.I'll go on 12th step calls with him.I am currently on Step Eleven . It is a learning practice learning how to use the tools that are provided in the Steps. I will never forget I'm one drug away from my past.I'll never forget the past ,but enjoy the new path of life I'm on .

The good times can also be a trap; the danger is that we may forget that our first priority is to stay clean.

Basic Text, p. 43

=

Things can get really good in our recovery. Perhaps weve found our soul mate, built a rewarding career, started a family. Maybe our relationships with our family members have healed. Things are going so well, we barely have time to attend meetings. Perhaps we begin to reintegrate into society so successfully that we forget that we dont always react to situations like others do.

Maybe, just maybe, weve put some priorities ahead of themselves. Is meeting attendance still a priority with us? Do we still sponsor? Do we phone our sponsor? What step are we working? Are we still willing to drag ourselves out of bed at some ungodly hour for a Twelfth Step call? Do we remember to practice principles in all our affairs? If others in NA reach out to us, are we available? Do we remember where we came from, or have the good times allowed us to forget?

To stay clean, we must remember that we are only one drug away from our past. We stay grateful for the good times, but we dont let them divert us from our continuing recovery in Narcotics Anonymous.

Just for today: Im grateful for the good times, but Ive not forgotten from where Ive come. Today, my first priority is staying clean and growing in my recovery.

Morning abd blessings of this day!!!  Through the years of my daily recovery I have often thought of the 'phase being one drug away from my past'I totally understand the concept but have other thoughts also on this statement.... When I lost the "desire to use" it was a culmination of  a lot of work and it happened even before I was aware of it.The true miracle of recovery for me.To lose the desire to use drugs was mind boggling for me,I always wanted to use ,in all situations and everyday,it was my life..

Our First Step gives us one focus: our addiction.  The wording of Step One also takes the focus of our powerlessness off the symptom and places it on the disease itself.  The phrase "powerless over a drug" does not go far enough for most of us in recoverythe desire to use has been removedbut "powerless over our addiction" is as relevant to the oldtimer as it is to the newcomer.  Our addiction begins to resurface and cause unmanageability in our thoughts and feelings whenever we become complacent in our program of recovery.  This process has nothing to do with "drug of choice."  We guard against the recurrence of our drug use by applying our spiritual principles, before a relapse.  Our First Step applies regardless of drug of choice and length of clean time.  With this "tenstrike" as its foundation, NA has begun to flourish as a major worldwide organization, clearly focusing on addiction..

The above writing is most important to me because even in recovery for example, if you were a Meth addict or a speed freak,or a stoner etc...there are medications you may need to take(phenyprolamine, depressants, etc for colds, illnesses etc) so I find it  also as important to remember that my body don't know if Im using or taking as prescribed. It is my daily work in the Solution and  the lack of  not using the tools of our program, the awareness of complacency ,the lack of participating and giving back, somehow to the best of my ability that could just as well caused me to go back to where I came from. Many years ago having sinus infections ,illnesses  etc and taking meds such as mentioned I realized at points I would ZOOM or nod on some of those meds and had to pull my awarenesses of the whole program into view to realize the feelings, address them and move back into the zone of recovery...Yes I do believe that any use of drugs that is not totally for healing and not using to "get the buzz" is a dangerous area, being"one drug" away has a little different connotation for me though...I have "LOST THE DESIRE TO USE" many years ago, but without awareness of above stated emotions complacency, feelings of being healed after 3 decades or other rationalizations that WE addicts(keep it on me here) can bring to the forfront so easily I find it to be the whole package..It is physical.spiritual and mental illness and manifests itself in all areas of our lives....A Claratin 24 hour allergy pill,(could catch a spped buzz) a muscle relaxer when my twisted Piriformis muscle is pullin me sideways(give me that 'RELAXED MODE" drugs I have used, there is always a chance to abuse that but through al the tools I have learned thru the years I know if im using or just trying to heal up....Am I one drug away from my past???? if all other tools are not working definitely,,,,but by God's grace I have lost that desire to use not only drugs but people, places, situations etc all part of my devastation...This is my stuff and I share it as our 10th Tradition tells us to not be devisive(didvide into separate camps),to work in the solution, not stay stuck in the problem,it is my own stuff and not of NA per say and and anything is sharing material if it affects my recovery and I am sharing from my own experience and not expounding on an opinion..  Thanx for allowing me this early morning ramble as I am healing from a so far 7 day Flu of some sort,,,,Generically with rest, fluids and prayer..Yes we have lost the desire to "USE" and that refers to drugs,,but we are aware  even when we put the substance down, the healing and work then begins......A day at a time.....smile
