In my continuing struggles to stay clean, i have always gotten great inspiration from a man named Steve Earle, he's been someone whose music and incredible will to leave and be better has grown to mean a lot in my life. several years ago, a friend of mine worked on Steve's website, they talked a lot, of course, and he told Steve how, during my last (well last before this one) relapse and detox, i had continually had his music on my MP3 player. there is nothing like barfing half the day and having Steve Earle's 25 years worth of music in your head. i have a t-shirt that says "music saved my life," and, in this instance, it really did...or it helped. So, my friend had Steve do this little bit of a video for me, i watch it a lot. Steve has been in recovery since the mid-1990s. You may not even know who he is, his music is American and folk and bluegrass and rock....I hope to be at one of his shows when I'm 75 and he's 77 and neither one of us can sit still. Just wanted to share. I've never posted this before, but thought you might like it, too.

Music has carried many an addict through the darkest of times. If your a reader check out Dr. Emmet Fox.....He was a minister in NYC back in the 20's and 30's. Bill W. and others of the New York AA group were followers of his talks, and evidence of his teachings can be found in the 12 steps and other recovery principles. thanks for the share.
hi Joanna. im a recovering addict that plays music.
i play sax and sing. Id loved to have made few cds by now but nothings done yet. Thers two reasons for that...
1. they warned me in the treatment center never to go back to playing music cause id relapse. i believed those scumbags and lost the first 10 years of my recovery doing other things for a living. So i lost out on opportunities that seem more available when younger.
2. music isnt a stand alone industry in this third world country where i live and of which im a citizen. thers not much of a recording industry for music other h than the cinema. So i couldnt translate/transform musical idead into cds.
But i live on hope........so its like "Joanna give me hope " hehe.. thanks.

in my writings i have had friends transform it into music as yrics inspire me and music to me isn't music till you feel it deep within your soul it has to move you i have to relate to contemplate what made me who i am without music to express feelings and without the written word i have nothing as i try to pass a msg in my words
