spouse of new recovering addict

Is it "normal" for my spouse to assume that everyone that has a beer or two at a party is an addict?  He's about 3 weeks into the NA program.

thanks

hahaha...but pardon my seeing humor in your situation.
fact is...when we addicts first get.. thers great euphoria.
its the natural tendency to pass that feeling on..

could be a bit awkward at times tho.. hmmmmm
i wish your spouse all the best and hope yall get some good ole fashioned talking going...

I didn't think everyone with drink invhand had a problem, but I did think anyone without one MUST secretly be in the program. Haha. As if the only reason you wouldn't have a drink at a party (normal or not) was if you were in the rooms. Hahahaha. This too shall pass Hun

As addicts, we obsess on drugs. We obsess on our own drug use as well as others. So, an addict at a party may be keeping track of how much everyone drinks. It takes a while for this obsession to abate. 3 weeks is not a long time. Using drugs (drinking) too is still very fresh in the mind at this stage. I would also say that it is probably not a good idea for an addict with only 3 weeks clean to be going to parties where a lot of people are drinking. It can be a very difficult and tempting situation for someone new in recovery.

I know this is not funny, but I had to chuckle.
It is sooooooooo normal for newbs to the program to see addiction in everyone.
It is a good sign though, really, it shows that he is being serious, and looking at others is part of being vigilant at this stage.
It will take some time, but he will lighten up.
The bigger issue to my mind is why is someone so new to being clean hanging around somewhere where people are drinking.
prolly not a good idea.
just sayin'
