My 18 year old just arrived home yesterday from being away for a year. He's been in intense therapy and rehab. He's addicted to marijunana. He just graduated and is focused on staying sober and going to college. However, he's returned to the area where alot of the addiction started.. I am beyond concerned that those "negative" friends who haven't one or more reasons haven't sought out help will bring him back into their group. I need support.. I can't police the situation but just offer support.. Very hard for a mom to do after many years of policeing.. Can anyone recommend a group for me for support?
Yes Nar Anon.org...I am an addict named Mike and also the parent of a now recovering heroin addict ,my 26 year old son(after 7 very long and trying years). You can google that site and find a meeting near you. It will help you identify with others just like you and help you realize you didnt cause it and you cant cure it but you can learn ways to help you understand about enabling behaviors and how to allow the addict to find their way.Detach with love a very unusual emotion for a parent or relative, friend of someone in active addiction..

if there aren't many nar anon groups in your area, then try al-anon. these days 'anons' are pretty welcoming of all, or so i'm told good luck to you both
