Do what you gotta do... I had to supplement my meetings with AA meetings in the beginning as there were only 2 NA meetings in town. The next closest meeting was 30 miles away in any direction. (we now have 5 NA meetings in town!)
My sponsor, as well as many others, had to start in AA because NA wasn't available in the locale. It's not the end of the world.
Face to face meetings are the best bet if you can get there, as we can hide behind our masks while online. The comfort of a physical hug when we are hurting can make the world of difference. Seeing emotion in people's faces, and others seeing emotion finally come to our faces... is the best thing ever!
Get a sponsor, work the steps, go to meetings, and get involved! :)
Face to face Meetings are the cornerstone of Recovery from Active Addiction. NA Promises one thing; that no addict need die from the horrors of active addiction. We have found that those who keep coming to our meetings regularly Stay Clean.
For me, I had to want Recovery as bad as I'd wanted my next fix. I went to any lengths to get loaded, I have to go to any lengths to Stay Clean. Early in my Recovery I had no transportation, not even a bike, this meant walking 15 miles to get a meeting. And I did multiple times a week.
Early on I went to every NA Meeting we had, which over three decades ago was only two a week, augmented by meetings of another Fellowship. However myself and other addicts found we couldn't get what we needed to continue Recovering from Addiction at these other outside meetings and so some of us started more NA Meetings. Sometimes a new NA Meeting was small, sometimes only myself reading NA Literature. Yet over time we grew. Today there are NA Meetings thriving everyday of the week.
If you want what we have, Recovery from Active Addiction and a better way of Life, NA Meetings come first, before friends or family or jobs. With Recovery all else follows. Without Recovery all falls apart.
Our live face to face NA Meetings are the cornerstone, the 12 Steps are the roadmap to learning to live Life Clean.
If you want off the revolving door of relapse, put your Recovery first. This isn't a game, it's life and death, One Day at a Time.
HP willing celebrating 31 years Clean later this month.
