I appreciate all of the encouragement. Has anyone had success with just making meetings online? This might be my disease talking here, but has anyone had success in recovering by just participating in online meetings? I am not guilty or ashamed to go back to meetings in person, but I do not really get that much out of attending physical meetings. What I do aquire, is a good feeling of doing something positive towards my recovery; which I also get from attending online too. Am I making any sense?
I started going to meeting way before the internet. I doubt that I could've gotten recovery just through an online experience. I needed to get with real people who could understand my problems. I found a great deal of experience, strength, and hope in the meetings. I also met my sponsor and developed relationships with other people in recovery. Online recovery can supplement regular meeting attendance, but I do not think it can replace it.
IMHO online meetings are a very weak substitute for face to face meetings. There are some people who are homebound or live in rural areas where there are no meetings so they have no choice but isolation is such a common symptom of our disease that choosing to stay away from meetings does sound like your disease talking to you. Get to a meeting. It could save your life.
