Suggestions For Recovering Using the Narcotics Anonymous Basic Text

I'd like to share and learn some tips for working with the NA Basic Text (NABT).

For the main text:
- Turn every statement into a question and ask yourself if it is true in your experience.
- The NABT is made of suggestions, actions, and reflections. Take each suggestion, do each action, and reflect if every statement is true for you or could be true for you.
- Every question is like a coin: it has two sides. Turn a question around and see if the NABT could possibly be wrong.
- Underline in What Can I Do, chapter six, every suggestion for recovery.
- Underline in Recovery and Relapse, chapter nine, every suggestion for relapse prevention.

For the stories:
- Read a story and underline where you felt the way the story teller felt. Write a single word beside of the precise feeling.
- Read a story and underline where you believed the way the story teller believed. Put an asterix where the storyteller relates what their belief led them into.
- Read a story and underline where you did or could do what the storyteller did. Then do it and see if you get the same results.
- Find a story that tells your story and share from the floor about them both and how you relate to them.

What other suggestions for working with the NABT can you guys put forward? Any wisdom or helpful ideas appreciated.

Hey amazing this, I've actually once done this for the first few chapters... I didn't know that this way is one of the many ways that NAs work the program across the world!

In fact, there is this Basic Text Step Working Guide believed to be in use many years back in Narcotics Anonymous before the SWG came into being... this guide is also something similar to what you've posted above...

Thanks for sharing this.
