Please help me come with ideas! How can the Area Service Committee be of service to the NA Groups?

Hi!

I'm in my local Area Service Committee as an admin committee member, and most of the groups are apathetic about the ASC. I want them to know what the ASC is there to serve and service their needs and help NA grow in the area.

I was wondering if you guys, especially the OCMs, can give me three to six suggestions each for ways the ASC can be of service to the Groups directly, financially, practically, or otherwise, old or new ways.

Peace and love!

Alara.

Hello,
I am on our area service committee also.  We try to plan activites threw out the year and invite all groups in and out of our area.  We make sure the groups have the pamplets and the knowledge they need to keep them alive.  We have a home page which we display all the events in our area so no one gets left out.  We sponsor a phone line to help others who need our help.  There is so much more.  Hope this helps some.

in loving service
Todd

Hi Alara! I am GSR  for my Monday night homegroup New Daze. There were some fundraisers that were disguised for H&I recruitment and our group had asked that it be more clear if you have something called a "chili cookoff" it really is that and not an H&I group recruitment,.some felt it was deceiving.Area does put on campouts, white water trips, they can't get any committmens for RCM'S or alternates thats a big  commitment/Our saturday Men Do Recover homegroup puts on quarterly "speaker jams which always bring a big turnout,We get a theme ,speakers from all over, serve dinner and one time had a "spade tournament.Like to see more involvement in more events like that..we have dance that follows each event....

Nice Mike!

Tell me more about the Speaker Jams please?

Are they paid events?

What kind of venue do you use?

How many people do you need to run it? Is it an ad hoc committee or does your ASC have a chair or standing committee for social stuff?

What kind of topics do you use?

Hi Alara,,
Im RCM from my area.
I keep sending emails with monthly reports and interesting documents from the past to members, groups and gsr's .

Hopefully this should keep them interested enough to come back to the monthly ASC meetings.

Our area has always faced different phases;
sometimes the house was packed and sometimes we dont even have a quorum.

I, as RCM, do announce ASC meetings and also suggest that groups look at filling vacancies in the committees.

Then again, sometimes a one- on -one talk with gsr's could do wonders.
I try and talk and then follow up with phone calls.

The chair could do the same.

Hey Alara! approx. every 3 months my Saturday Homegroup 'Men Do Recover" put on this jam.We discuss a theme e.g last months was "We are responsible for our our recovery" We start at 12:00 go till almost 8 with speakers on for 1/2 hour each.Breaks in between.I persOnally do coffee commitment all day.Other guys cook in kitchen ,we usually have dinner plates for sale ($8.00) coffee free and I usually buy cookies. We are now serving fish dinners we go to special place and bread sole or whatever fish is available. We have raffles  50/50 thry the day. They do have vendors that have Narcotics Anonymous apparell for sale, there was some conflict with that ,but we worked it out,They also used to have tapes of the event but we stopped that also ,group concience thing,,After last speaker we clean up and have a dance that goes to 12:00. We were getting $$$ from our 7th tradition and putting on the events. We have a donation bottle(covered so it is not an obvious thing) the $ we make from dinners and all other sales usually just cover  and then some for expenses. Most guys now, including myself, just donate the time and material,(i buy cooffe cookies, etc and am usually there from 10;00am until around 9:00 pm i DONT USUALLY STAY FOR DANCENow that most home group members donate the food/coffee/etc we usually do well and send most $$ right to World.(had some problems with area treasury for awhile)We usually get between 200-300 addicts from all areas of upstate New York.THEY COME FROM AS FAR AS 60-70 MILES AWAY TO SPEAK.We also give away Basic textS when we do clean time count downs and just celebrate life.We have a church that allows us use and we are very careful to keep all in order to not lose our place. We have our next one coming up mid july..I;ll let you know theme when we work it out,,Carry the message of hope is such a blessing and we get many 'newcomers" just curious show up..One addict helping another...smile
