Some good advice from a prior member

no Hey All Sober Members of NA.  I guess I can't really share here because only people who have been clean and sober for at least 24 hours are allowed to share. Still, I might be able to help you in what you should try to avoid.  I use to be in AA and NA and was clean and sober for just about 5 years.  I have now been on Methadone for almost 5 years.  My warning to all of you is to be extremely careful, don't get in any relationships until you are sure you are ready and know the person for a very long time.  Also, be aware of your own motivations.  Ladies, there are no saviors in N.A.  Let God become your savior, there really is no one else.  I think most people are probably off if they set up some moral standards, and then, live by them.  If you are the type that "fall in love" easily, it would better that you don't sleep around.  Some men and women are preditors and are keeping score of who they can put on their list.  You can live without sex for a while.  Give yourself a break and keep things simple.  If you started using early in your life, you should allow the kid inside to express him/her self.  Who knows what talents are just waiting to be discovered.

If you dicide to return to your own faith, get into service there to.  Join the choir.  Or if you are kepping it a little more simple do a lot of 12 step work and even get involved with your own community.  Don't just sit around the 12 step clubs drinking coffee, catching up on the gossip and going to every meeting available.  Meetings are good and you need them to remind you of who you are, but now you are a clean and sober member of your community. Learn to live, love and be happy.  Learn how to do at least one kind thing without telling anyone at least once a day.  Soon you will find that you are not thinking about yourself so much, but you are really concerned about others.

One day, God willing, I will return.

God bless you all.

Lydia Jay

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop using.
Thank you for your honesty. You are welcome here. Perhaps your coming onto this board is a message from your higher power that it may be time for you to kick the methadone and be free of all drugs.
We are here to support you if you so desire.

Hi Lydia,,
Ive seen a couple of guys back in UK when I lived there, get off meth and lose the desire to use.
One was my sponse and had been on meth for but few years but the other guy was on it for two decades...
They are both still off it,,, nearly a year later and are leading lives free of all drugs...

With the 12 Steps as our Guide,, all things are possible.

Thank you Lydiajay, you are always welcome here ,this is not NA, but it is a message board were we share our ESH in the NA way.My son ,24 ,also an IV heroin abuser,is on 120 mils of methadone and also working a recovery program. He knows that substitution is not his ultimate goal, complete abstinence and a recovery program is but each of us has their own process.. 3rd tradition states "only desire for membership is desire to stop using" only you know your desire,,,Our bulletin#29 gives you insight to NA's view on this issue. We are here for support and to share our message of hope for all those who want to hear it..keep coming back, let us know how its going!!l What works for me is constantly turning over to the "care" of my Higher Power "all parts of my will and lives, listen for answers, take the action ,allow God to work the results..Thanks for sharing .glad your heresmile
