In the early stages of recovery you probably can't know.
That's why we get a sponsor. and a higher power
Go to a few meetings and listen. Pray to your HP that you will find a good sponsor. When you feel you may have found someone with good recovery who you think you can trust ask her to be your temporary sponsor.
You didn't become addicted overnight, so remember.....easy does it.
Keep coming back.

NA Welcomes you - When we are seeking a new way a life - We can not depend on us - We have to depend on others for help - as Avid said - get a sponsor, go to meetings - We truly have to look at our best thinking got us where - Jails, Institutions and death - So give yourself a break - easy does it -

yes trying to learn a new way of looking at things, living in a new way, could be quite confusing and dramatic at times. I've found that being the addict that I'm, I'm resistant to change. I tend to rather choose the familiar pain than to have to face an uncertain present or future that working the Program seems to bring about my way smile.gif

Knowing that I can't do it alone, and seeking directions from a Power greater than me helps. It could be via making meetings, or reaching out to a Sponsor or another member, or through inventorying to see where I'm at. As for my spouse telling me what's wrong with me or me telling her the same from time to time, well... that's what happens between a couple or for that matter between any two people I guess... lol...

What I feel about myself on a particular day when I wake up is what's more important to me. And giving my thoughts and feelings, the way I've been feeling about myself, a reality check with the help of a Sponsor or through an inventory keeps me in good stead most of the times... A very important thing that I learnt from my first Sponsor was to be gentle and compassionate towards myself while learning to apply the Program in my daily life. I realized that I do not have to be hard on myself, or try to force the Program into my life. When I invite a loving Higher Power into my life, the results and the way I feel about them no matter what they are is surely a very different experience, of a spiritual nature, that enforced morality cannot possibly deliver.

I have provided details on how to get an online sponsor on one of our sticky threads on the top of the message board that mentions stepwork, just above where you've posted there.

Also check your whiteboard ME2BRANDIE, keep coming back, best wishes!

Online meetings are better than no meeting, but we addicts tend to isolate.
Face 2 face meetings get us out of the house and out of ourselves. We meet other recovering addicts and begin to form some healthy relationships. IMO it's important to your recovery that you make arrangements and get out for meetings.
