"We live a day at a time but also from moment to moment. When we stop living in the here and now, our problems become magnified unreasonably."
Basic Text, p. 99
Life often seems too complicated to understand, especially for those of us who've dodged it for so long. When we stopped using drugs, many of us came face to face with a world that was confusing, even terrifying. Looking at life and all its details, all at once, may be overwhelming. We think that maybe we can't handle life after all and that it's useless to try. These thoughts feed themselves, and pretty soon we're paralyzed by the imagined complexity of life.
Happily, we don't have to fix everything at once. Solving a single problem seems possible, so we take them one at a time. We take care of each moment as it comes, and then take care of the next moment as it comes. We learn to stay clean just for today, and we approach our problems the same way. When we live life in each moment, it's not such a terrifying prospect. One breath at a time, we can stay clean and learn to live.
Just for Today: I will keep it simple by living in this moment only. Today, I will tackle only today's problems; I will leave tomorrow's problems to tomorrow
Today my problem is my back. I bent over to pick up my dog (12 lbs.) and pop goes the vertebrae! This happens to me once every couple of years so I have been here before. I did let myself think that it wouldn't happen again because I have been exercising and keeping fit. Alas twas not to be. So jft I will take it easy, use my heating pad, watch the memorial day specials on the tube.
Morning Don! I am sorry to hear about your back and can definitely identify. For many years I have had a problem that the muscle in my upper left hip areas tightens and pulls my spine to the side.I get tremendous spasms some that will drop me to my knees. We have been moving stuff into a storage shed I had to rent in preparation for our house sale by end of june, early July.I felt it spase the other morning and said to my wife, not now don;t want to spend holiday gimped up..was fortunate I wear a brace when I lift but sometimes it just goes, once when I bent over to brush my teeth.Usaully lasts about a week before I can straighten up and then is okay..I have a tens unit(electrical stimualation that keeps the muscles active and pulsing but nothing but time seems to work..You don't think being in our "60"s got anything to do with it do ya:)) Im 8 in my mind and sometimes feel a 100 in my body,my brain thats a long story:) Take care my friend ,going to be all day marathons of war movies and celebrations to our heroes who fought and served and died for us..I have monday night homegroup so after I get home tonight 10;00 I'll chill. we took next 2 days off also ,,got tons of vacation time ,going to start using it..Have a blessed day,
