"The progression of recovery is a continuous uphill journey."
Basic Text, p. 83
The longer we stay clean, the steeper and narrower our path seems to become. But God doesn't give us more than we can handle. No matter how difficult the road becomes, no matter how narrow, how winding the turns, there is hope. That hope lies in our spiritual progression.
If we keep showing up at meetings and staying clean, life gets... well, different. The continual search for answers to life's ups and downs can lead us to question all aspects of our lives. Life isn't always pleasant. This is when we must turn to our Higher Power with even more faith. Sometimes all we can do is hold on tight, believing that things will get better.
In time, our faith will produce understanding. We will begin to see the "bigger picture" of our lives. As our relationship with our Higher Power unfolds and deepens, acceptance becomes almost second nature. No matter what happens as we walk through recovery, we rely on our faith in a loving Higher Power and continue onward.
Just for Today: I accept that I don't have all the answers to life's questions. Nonetheless, I will have faith in the God of my understanding and continue on the journey of recovery.
The rest of this really is pertinent to me when it tells ius 'without effort we slide down the hill again, but for me the real kick is"the progression of the disease isongoing "even during abstinence! All them years out there, free from active addiction but doing no work.Walking suicide until I started practicing spiritual principles and "Living them" in my life.Don I hear you and will extend an extra effort in my daily office of prayer today for your serenity and spiritual health. As much as we practice and try to live our HP's will ,we are of fallen nature, fragile and human, and sometimes we just grow weary!!!Just for Today, with help of others , and by helping others we can regain our strength and continue to move forward. peace

Our purpose is to remain clean, just for today, and to carry the message of recovery.
Sometimes all we can do is hold on tight, believing that things will get better.
This is one blessing I've got in abundance from Narcotics Anonymous. There have been many times in my recovery where everything seemed to fall to pieces, and I've just held on, made meetings, shared about it, and prayed. I knew deep inside that it does get better, and this faith has always led me to choosing to work the Program, sooner or later...
Indeed, like the JFT says, in time, faith does produce understanding...
Today, we went for H&I and when we entered a hall full of addicts, 60 of them, we felt hope, all 4 of us came back with a lot of hope. Getting in touch with where I came from does have the magic of showing me clearly all that my Higher Power has done for me in my recovery, all the blessings, all the gifts, they are very clear to see once I see where I was when I started out... Hope shines forth, dispelling all fears and doubt...
