" You can't handle the truth"

went to the shrink yesterday hoping to get some answers on why Iam the way I am and what do we do to fix it
well the doc basically said you are not ready for the truth but I am getting there
he expressed that I am not ready but getting closer to being able to process the process in which my life has turned for a little over a year...he said when Igot in to see my therapist so I could process the answers I so desire I would have some one to guide me thru the  "Truth" about self..
during this visit he said " you are all over the place" so I asked "is it mania" he replied "no it's not mania" and expressed that Iwas switching so fast he could barely keep up
my fiance was in the room cause he wanted some answers
I guess when the doc said Iwasn't ready for that answer it spooked him and now Ihave managed to run off ALL my real friends outside this box...not really sure how to make new frinds due to tha anxiety I have just in leaving the apartment (agoraphobia) I am not excatly hopeless but very alone
if I can't handle the truth then who can?

HI Manon,
The first thing that came to mind when the doc said "your not ready"
Is that "he doesn't know"
The second thing is that your fiance got spooked, but does that mean he ran away never to return?
Hang in there girl.
I'm reminded of a line I heard on TV the other night. It was a World War 2 veteran talking about a horrible battle.
He said "Sometimes all you can do is hang on and pray"
Ain't it the truth.

Manon,It has to be very confusing, one doctor saying one thing then another saying something different.Pray a lot.

it was my idea to go to the long term thing but my shrink says it only has short term effectivity we are just trying to get me stable or as stable as an unstable person can be wink
I just wanted to know why in my life all this is happening and he says I am not able to process the answer he would give me I respect him for thagt but how do you fix something if you don't know what to fix

Some things are "unfixable" by man.
That's when we surrender.
We admit our powerlessness and leave the fixing to a power greater than ourself.
Then with some willingness, guidance, and consistency we move forward to the best of our ability.
Speaking for myself Manon, I know when I try to figure myself out I get more confused.

However, it is also possible that your doc is correct in what he has assessed, that you may not be ready at this time, especially if you are rapidly cycling during sessions.

Trying to process his input while you are switching is like trying to hear and understand info about addiction or alcoholism while one is in the peak of DT's and in acute withdrawal...ain't gonna happen!!

"... respect him for thagt but how do you fix something if you don't know what to fix..."

The operative word here is BUT.

I get the most our of my health providers when I lose the "but" and (assuming the "respect" is honest and real) apply enough patience to listen, hear, ask questions, and apply what they give me.

Now if that respect is NOT really there and it's just words, that's a whole other ball game. So it is important for me to know whether or not I do trust the competency of those who I am paying to help me...even when I don't like what I hear.

Create a safe space for truth to unfold within

Hi Manon.

I don't know you, so take what you need and leave the rest.

I'd like to invite you to please consider the possibility that the truth is inside you yourself. You are both greater and humbler, both more powerful and less empowered, than you can imagine.

May I please suggest you create a space to simply be for a while. Allow yourself to be and the truth will moment by moment be disclosed to you.

We have a responsibiliity to create a safe space in which to become. Creating and entering this space is called "contemplation". Contemplate the wonderful truth of who you are and find peace.

Consider that you are an infinitely beloved child of God, unlimited and free to choose.

Thomas Leonard wrote:

"What I've found is that when people do recognize and tell the truth as it emerges, their bodies are naturally guided to reorient around the truth. It doesn't take commitment or willpower. You needn't force yourself to change. You don't have to consciously rebuild your belief system.

"The body and the soul are naturally attracted to seek truth. The truth will evolve you - that's how strong it is! Trust in that strength and have patience with yourself in the meantime."

[I have edited, without substituting, Leonard's words in order to put them in context]

Bless you. You're in a great place for growth!

RE: " You can't handle the truth"

Agoraphobia isn't easy-- I know what you mean about it!

There is a 12 Step program for Agoraphobia (and other kinds of social anxiety), that has been very helpful.

They also have telephone 12 Step groups for agoraphobia (and social anxiety) so if you are stuck at home you can still get a 12 Step meeting.
