I'll pray, thanking my higher power for another day clean.
I"ll go to a meeting, and share if I can contribute.
I'll do something nice for someone.

Today, Im showing my gratitude by being present at the UK Regional meeting as RCM-alt. from my area (NE England).

I have sacrificed some leisure time in Sheffield and am here in Leeds, 50 miles away, for a two day engagement.

The showing of that gratitude has not come easy; thoughts do come like
" You have been serving NA for 21 years, in one position or another; when will you let go ?".

My love for the still suffering and the recovering addict prevents me from listening to those thoughts. My gratitude speaks when I care and share the NA Way.
The love and support of others in service keeps getting me back here.

The logic is simple, I can do some things in recovery as an individual, then the group become a power greater than me. The group however has its primary purpose and can only do that well; so the rest of the service effort is passed on to area and region and World.

That is the gratitude line, and I always crave to be in that line somewhere, and God has always granted that wish.

I will be a little more thoughtful of others today. I will try to think of someone else's feelings before my own.

I will show my gratitude by sharing my gratitude for all those things that we take for granted...

a soft bed (sure beats that prison rack I used to sleep on),

food in the kitchen (I recall all those times I went hungry... even sneaking into peoples gardens to eat that last over-ripe tomatoe still hanging limply on the vine),

a roof over my head (those months I spent living out of a tent that had a big hole in the roof and wouldn't zip shut),

a kind and loving man in my life (much better than the ones that put me in the hospital),

my freedom (addiction, jails, and institutions),

friends (as opposed to the other using addicts that I used and that used me),

and last, but not least, I am grateful for Narcotics Anonymous for saving my life, then giving me a life that was actually worth living!
