i am still very new in sobriety> i was in an inpatient rehab faclity and was released 1/9/2009. i am currently in an intensive outpatiebt drug and alcohol program and am majorly struggling in maintainng sobriety. please any suggestions would be greatly welcomed
IF your going to be hanging out here and sharing I suggest you also do a lot of reading , what others have to give is experience, strength and hope.
Go to meetings 90 meetings 90 days or more if you can
Find a sponsor
Start reading the NA book
Start working the steps THATS the program
Don't use inbetween give yourself a break and give yourself a chance you may need to pray for strength dont be shy there , honesty openmindness and willingness those are part of the recipe for success.
welcome! big v pretty much said it all, in terms of what you need to be doing. just make sure you're taking action-it will not feel comfortable at first or probably even for a while, but for me every day that i'm doing the next right thing (whatever that may be) and keeping in contact with women in sobriety, calling people, working my steps, talking to my sponsor...it gets a little better. keep seeking god, because for me that is where the real releif came. i did not feel god, and had a lot of preconceptions/prejudices coming into the program, and could not believe that people actually talked to this 'thing' lol and heard back from Him. well, i was told just talk to God, like you would to a friend, and be honest. if you are mad, tell Him/Her, if you are happy, be thankful, etc... anyway that is where my relief came in, i actually did get a moment where i did feel/hear God and it was awesome. i thought getting past the physical w/d and cravings was going to be the worst of it, but for me the mental part is way harder. in fact, feeling good is almost scarier for me than feeling bad, as weird as that sounds. i'm glad you are here, keep coming back as they say, just keep putting one foot in front of the other and reaching out like you are, it will get better. hug
Welcome and I agree with V... Meetings, getting connected with people in the program who are practicing recovery and living it. Get the literature, it IS the program. Get phone numbers from women in the program (ASSuming you're a woman) and USE them. Keep coming back and don't use no matter what!
