"There is something in our self-destructive personalities that cries for failure"
"Poor me; woe is me; look at me, my life is such a mess! I've failed and no matter how hard I try, I continue to fail."
Many of us come to NA singing this sad refrain.
Life isn't like that anymore. True, sometimes we still stumble; at times we even fall. Sometimes we feel like we can't move forward in our lives, no matter how hard we try. But the truth of the matter is that, with the help of other recovering addicts in NA, we find a hand to pull us up, dust us off, and help us start all over again. That's the new refrain in our lives today.
No longer do we say "I'm a failure and I'm going nowhere."
Usually it is more like , "Rats! I hit that same bump in the road of life again. Pretty soon I'll learn to slew down or avoid it entirely." Until then, we may continue to fall down occasionally, but we've learned that there's always a helping hand to set us on our feet again.
Just for today: If I begin to cry failure, I'll remember there is a way to move forward. I will accept the encouragement and support of NA.

Yes, I bought a ticket on the crazy train.....Good thing it was a return ticket.
Thank you for the message of hope today. I can really relate to the bump in the rode. somedays i am the bump in the road other days I learn from the bumps. Today i choose to learn and recover. If I listen to the suggestions of the fellowship, it means I am not trying to impose my will on an impossible situation. I can't do this alone I need help What is amazing is that if you ask for help and guidance you will get it. That is part of the work. I have allways been a big believer in the Puritan work ethic, and today I need to put as much effort into my recovery that I did in active addiction. I was trying to make excuses for not going to a meeting on friday, I had no way of getting to one (or so I thought) I had an appointment at night so that option was out. My sister bike was available to me and when I sat still for a minute a thought came to me. If I was active would I ride a bike to get what I needed, so I need to use the bike to get what I needed (recovery) so that's what I did. Thanks I am an addict my name is Dave M
