Anyone used short term disability during recovery? I have it as a possible option but I don't want to create a problem bigger than the one I am currently facing. With my savings and short term disability I think we can make it through the weeks I must not be working in the medical field. But like I said I don't to jump out of the frying pan and into the fire.
I got fired from my job and ran it out but during that time I got cleaned up and started looking for work and I started also going to adult college a few nights a week.
If there not going to let you work then what choice have you got you may get more money on disability then you would working a menial job you would then have more time to focus on going to 2 meetings a day and maybe spend some extra time with family, are they putting you in out patient treatment?
hey man, i was in a car wreck recently, air bags broke both my arms, i think short term pays 10 weeks. might be 8 might be 12, i was out 8 weeks they paid at 487 a week i believe. if they pay for recovery that would be great. no excuse not to miss 72 meetings in 72 days. good luck.

I believe my short term is 14 weeks and 60 percent of my income. Also my health insurance stays intact for that time. To get back to work I need to complete the first part of the intensive outpatient treatment, letter from counselor saying I can work again and clearance from the state board which regulates my license. If I comply with all aspects of the program, IOP, Recovery meetings, drug screen compliance and they are negative, with my positive work record, the board has implied there should be no problems after the 6 or 7th week to return to work.
My problem is getting labeled with something that allows the short term disability and than that label is in itself damaging. Not good. I don't want to fix one problem, income, by creating a bigger problem with some bogus dx just to make short term disability available.
And given that honesty is essential to recover, I'm not going to lie about it. I'm going to recover!
In Canada, short term can be used when you start recovery from addiction. I am not sure what it is you would be lying about. You are an addict and you are getting treatment for that disease. After, you will become a recovering addict. If you have the opportunity to focus 100% on your recovery at the begining, I would embrace that. The chance to get yourself waist deep in recovery before adding the stresses of daily work is a huge gift. Maybe this is your higher power providing you with exactly what you need, when you need it.
Take care.

I am taking personal leave, FMLA, with short term disability. Will make up difference in salary with savings. Have short term disability for 6 months with health insurance for 14 weeks. If not back to full time by 14 weeks from now, and should be, can be added to my wife's insurance.

ADDICTION is considered a fulltime disabilt/ in the FEDERAL GOV you should apply! Get your money honey!
This has been since 1997.
Than you should take the time and maybe go back to school and get your MASTERS or PHD!~
Thanks honey bear. But i'd rather be working. While I am not just what I do, what I do is in part who I am. I would not be all of me if I was not able to do who I am. And I'm guessing that sentence doesn't make sense to everyone. But it probably makes a great deal of sense to those that understand. Folks like us.
As I become more comfortable with where I am in this recovery process and my actions have earned some credibility to speak, right now I feel it would be absurd to act as if I actually know something and until i feel my words have some credibility I will keep silent, I'll try to participate more in terms of all of who I am. Right now its about getting past these early steps, shine the light on the "why" in me that preferred to feel like I felt when I had a few of my little buddies on board. Once more light is shining in me, I'll be more of me even here.
I need to work though. That's who I am. I am glad folks have disability and not judging those who need and use it. Just for me, I have to work.
