New and wanting to introduce myself

Hi My name is Wendy and I do not know if I have a problem or not.  I have been on Vicodin or something close to it called Norco now for about three years for one thing or another.   I recently have been diagnosed with Systemic Lupus and Fibromyalgia which means I am in constant pain.  My prescription is for five pills a day which is quite alot but there are days where I take more than that and there are days where I have only taken two.  The problem is I don't know if the pain is real or in my head because I want more.  I have my husband hide them and only give me five but he is not very good because he says he doesn't like to see me in pain or he hides them in places where I can find them.  I have gone through withdrawal 3 times in since I started them years ago and it is not fun and I have told my doctors that I feel I am addicted to them but they brush me off and basically do not offer much help.  I do see a psychiatrist because of depression and she has offered to send me to a program but at the time we lived too far away for the outpatient program and my husband is too protective of me to put me in an inpatient program.  Not that we are closer I may talk to my doctor about going to the outpatient program but I wanted to know what other people experiance and see if I am just over reacting.  I look forward to your responses and getting to know everyone.  Thank y ou and God Bless, Wendy

Hi Wendy,

Welcome to MIP. I'm not familiar with the program you're considering, but I figure it can't hurt to check it out. You may also want to visit an NA meeting and pick up some literature there. There is also some literature online at http://www.na.org/ips/eng/index.htm

You may be particularly interested in IP #7 "Am I an Addict?"

Finally, allow me to offer this little ditty that I think is pretty true:

People who don't have a drug problem, don't sit around wondering if they do.

Hi Wendy, welcome. Try out the NA way of life for a few weeks, and I'm sure you would be better informed about your problem. Keep coming back.
