Dreams

OK to start with I have a diagnosis of having some bi-polarness, and take seroquil for it. It helps A LOT, and I don't wake up at 2AM worrying.anymore (My therapist has even said i seem very relaxed, and he thinks we should cut back to once a month) If I dowake up, I just say the serenity prayer till I drift off again.

My dreams have always been alittle weird. I have had like 3 or four drug dreams inwhich I did not use, but was close to the drugs. In one dream, I even told myself...I can't do that I have clean time! Every morning I start my day on my knees saying some third step prayers, and praying for others who I know are hurting.

But recently I had a dream where i copped blow for somebody else, and took possesion of it, even though I knew it was wrong. Is this a bad omen, or should I just blow off thinking about it?

Hi Dave,, if i may;;;;
i had dreams that id used and that was in the early days of recovery.
id wake up thinking
:oh f@#$ nooooooooooooooooo!:
then when i shared and read recovery litt.on it they said it was a good thing,,, an indication of my sinciere and honest desire to stay clean no matter what.
I was diagnosed as sleep disordered early in life,, at age 16.I wasnt even using then and thats one early sign of unmanageability.
They put me on calmpose to stop me from waking up screaming and kicking at nite and disturbing others.
I FELT VERY ASHAMED AND DIFFERENT AND FREAKISH !!
little did i know tha thats when i first discovered downers !!!
now my lifes ok,, with ups and downs and tho not bipolar i have been caughtb up in emotional disturbances now and then.
usually happens when i isolate fromovering addicts and stop Meditating.
I learnt many years ago
Stop medicating and start Meditating !!
Buddy it works when we work it,, however we need feel no guikt for taking medications that help us in our recovery !

Hi Dave,

Here's how I deal with using or near-using dreams:

I accept that I am powerless over my dreams.
My dreams do not determine my reality.
If my drug dreams are particularly disturbing, I increase my meetings and contact with my sponsor.
I always share with someone about the dream.

I hope that helps in some way.

Best wishes and sweet dreams.

There's a beautiful reflection on Dreams in our Just For Today book. Check it out Dave. It helped me a lot to deal with my using dreams.

I was also diagnosed with Bipolar and had been taking meds for it in my early recovery. Now, I've been free from any manic-depressive episodes for more than 3 years nowsmile.gif

I cannot believe that I haven't acted manic or have been overwhelmed with depression for that long now. It seemed impossible to get out of it back then when I was going through all that nighmarish episodes back then.

It works, it does get better, miracles do happen. Thank you for sharing Dave.
