the hostage begging for freedom

THE HOSTAGE BEGGING FOR FREEDOM

By Jayson Cole

The hostage that could see no way out

No matter how much he would scream and shout

Locked away in a cell so deep

A cold steel door no sign of a key

His cries could not be heard by the world outside

As he longed for the day that he might die

In the depths of his cell I heard him cry

Why had god abandoned me

His family's helplessness pain and despair

Their fruitful tree but a memory

But in his dreams he might escape

If only they were reality

His anger at the jailer that he could not see

A soft voice called to him from inside his head

Your faith is the key to set you free

Trust in god

Have faith pass your hand though the wall

Abandon your fears and stand tall

Look beyond your mental capacity

Look beyond and set yourself free

That hostage was me drugs were the cell that imprisoned me

I was that hostage and the jailer too

Not one of us is given a torch big enough to lead the addicts of the world out of the darkness and into the light. Instead, each of us has been given a candle that burns for a short while with a flickering flame.

My faith was the key that set me free

I found him in NA

I looked beyond insanity

God blessed me with his anonymity

TODAY I HAVE MY FAMILY

I AM FINALLY FREE

If we stand together, the light will outshine the greatest torch; if we argue and bicker and blow at each others candles so that each of us starts shielding our own little flame, then the addicts of the world will continue to suffer in darkness, and so will we.

Dear Jason,
don't think anyone who has ever been addicted to drugs or spent any jail time, a year or more in a locked facility can't relate to your poem.

Being addicted to any substance for years. Like you did or have written about was a mental prison.

My journaling for years helped me soooo much. I got what is in my head out on paper. The things not worth sharing with other human beings. Like insane thoughts that willl be burned during our next really big fire in our family room.

Prayer journals I will keep for my Son or Husband if I pass on to Glory first. But the best part is that writting poetry is a "Gift." Continue to use your God given talent.
Thanks for sharing it.

Blessed
