i was interviewed for job a while ago and had to submit a criminal record check... there are two theft charges from like...20 and 25 years ago.. that is preventing me from getting this job... even though i worked at the same job in a different city for 2 years with no problems..for home care as a special care aide. i was employed with the health district for 4 years and lost it all due to active addiction.
i was so excited with the possibility of having a union job again... pension ... dental.. blah blah blah.. at 19 bucks an hour.. to have my past come back and bite me. Shit.
I'm so sorry things didn't work out but maybe your higher power has something else in mind for you. Who knows? I think there may be other options such as having records from 7 or more years old expunged or taken off your record check. You haven't been in any trouble in that long so it might be something to consider.
Don't give up!! My thoughts and prayers are with ya ((((Wendy))))

Hi Wendy, I am sure that your HP has a plan for you. In the mean time, you can go to appeals and have those charges taken off of your record especially if they are 20 years old. This is information from Canada. I don't know where you are from but that is the way it has worked for many of us in Canada.

(((((Wendy))))) I can relate especially when past in the form of Hepatitis C comes back to haunt me today. When I wake up with fatigue and body/limbs ache frequently nowadays, I tend to wish that I could just go back in time and undo my hep C problem...
But just like someone also mentioned, opening my mind to a loving, caring and compassionate intention of my Higher Power to this issue and surrendering it to my Higher Power's care always makes me optimistic...

Wendy, I'm curenly facing DUI charges, from over a year ago. I so relate. The fact that I'm clean now counts for nothing with the court. The fact that I've been to rehab and am prepared to undergo weekly, bi-weelky, daily urine tests counts for nothing.
The authorities find it difficult to give us a break. I have found it difficult to give an addict or recovering addict a break before I became one myself.
