looking for balance..(good to be home)

I have been fighting so hard to get balance in my life. With work, meetings, and my son i have been running my self ragged. I havent been online for over a month now and i just wanted to let everyone know i am still here and still clean. I am having problems trying to fit in the one thing i always over look. Healthy me time. I mean it is great to do good at work and it is great to go to alot of meetings and it is great to be a good dad but i am not including time for me and this is driving me crazy. I guess i just had to get that out because my patterns in the past have been to run my self ragged and "relax" by using. That is not an option today, and i was wondering if there is anyone that has gone through something similar and have any suggestions.

well its good to get back online and see some familar names. Hey scott good to see that your doing good. congrats on the job man i am glad things are on the up and up for you.

Hugs Mike and good to hear from you!!

Wow, the insanity of trying to do it all :) I don't know....when I began to just STOP for a minute....and take a moment to talk to my higher power....good things happened. I know what you mean by not having a lot of time for yourself; seems I never have any either!!

But the best time of all is when I am talking and meditating to my god and letting him surround me with his loving arms and make me all peaceful and serene. A good meeting is kinda like that too!!

I think knowing too, that you are out of balance, shows that you are willing to try and do something different today. So no matter what you choose to do, pray, meditate, walk or just visit another addict, taking time for you is one of the most important things in recovery today. If we aren't taking care of ourselves, emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually, it begins to show. I think too, the best thing about taking time for yourself, is that you come to know and love yourself a bit more each time you do as that seems to be when you are most relaxed and calm and your spirit can soar.....and loving yourself today is a good thing :)

Not sure that all made sense......but easy does it :) NA Love and Hugs :)

Hi Mike, I think alot of us are in the same boat. A thing that works for me is while I am being run around like a rented mule, I take some time, even a few seconds to just enjoy some of the simple things that happen during busy days, like dropping your kids off at school and watching them walk away, getting something done that your wife that she really needed done or a few seconds to enjoy a veiw even if it is just a nice building or a couple of kids skate boarding. Relaxes me.

Hope this helps,
kenh

I have to get away from it all from time to time uhmm like every week heck I am going to try and take off tomorrow to go hunt gold with a friend.

IF i added a baby to my life I know i'd be 100 times more stressed and definetly wouldn't be skipping out on work.
HAng in the mike keep checkin in good to see you

Mike, I share your struggle. I started a new job about a month ago. I now have three part-time jobs. I am very gradually finding a balance. I have been able to fit in time for the gym and meetings, which help.

I also make myself have one day a week with no commitments. I won't even make a date with my husband on that day. I need to have a day for doing only what I want or nothing at all. It helps a lot.

And just as I am having a day with no commitments, at the same time I plan to attend the next ASC meeting to perhaps take a recovery commitment. I need to ensure that I won't drift as I tend to do when I get busy.

Hey, I also have a similar no-commitment day once a week, all for myself, but being a recovering addict in NA, I cannot help but make the monthly ASC meeting or one of the fortnightly H&I and LTC Meetings smile.gif

Many a times I start this day with a morning NA meeting too, and at other times, with a little bit of stepwork with another member...

But mostly, I'm just watching movies, listening to music, reading a good book, going out to McDonalds, KFC or Baskin/Robbins with my wife and getting stoned on food, studying my stamp collection, playing with my dogs or just chillin' out at the cafe with friends...

I've realized that it's very important to unwind through leisure pursuits, perhaps as important as commitments and responsibilities like work or relationship as my ability to perform well and just in these areas depends on my state of being, and I have to nourish and nurture my state of being too, through hobbies, entertainment, rest, fun and other leisure pursuits...

While using, I couldn't even function as a human being, and now, what an experience it is to be able to live it all smile.gif Miracles Do Happen the NA Way...
