I used(and sometimes still do) to carry on lies and thought I was justified for a lot different but untrue reasons.

Jason, good reply. It can be a deep question. It was for me. I tried to blame everything I could think of other than myself.

Jad12888 good work, I am glad you have started the steps. There is no justification for lies, especially to yourself.

Thanks for sharing

basically I think it means do we make excuses for our behavior thats believable but not really true. Like in my using I would make any excuse to use, it was a holiday or it was friday or its been a tough day or its been a good day lets celebrate, or I've been good the past couple of days I deserve it etc etc etc. I would talk myself into using and completely justify it in my head. Denial.

In recovery, well I haven't really been clean long enough to recognize my addiction manifesting itself in other behaviors yet, though I'm pretty sure I've been eating too much since I got clean. But since I was strung out and skinny I haven't been too worried about it yet. although that right there could be one of those 'plausible' excuses! hmmmmm

There is no pace at which you should work the steps. you are where you are. don't ever be afraid to ask or share with your sponsor.. taking the steps is like a journey through the woods. and you wouldnt go with out a guide. so make sure you ask your guide. and remember as addicts we have a way of blowing a situation up in our head to be worse than it actual is or worry about what someone is going to say. So make sure you ask your sponsor as well. thats why they are there. glad your here
