what na meetings are to me

The serenity prayer simply asks a God of your understanding to help you accept things you are not in control of, allow you to manage those things that you are able to manage, and the knowledge to know when you can and when you can't. The twelve steps is a process of recovery and when just getting clean the first three are very important in order to establish a foundation. You are suggested to get a sponsor (someone you can relate to and share with), go to meetings (get a meeting schedule so you know where meetings are held) , get a network (other people you can contact - get a phone book and record their numbers - who are clean and working the program), and begin to work the steps of the program (by reading the basic test, It Works: How and Why, and the Step Working Guide) with the guidance of your sponsor. By following these suggestions you will be well on your way to a new way of life. I hope this helped and my best wishes for a successfull journey

Thanks Jayson. I def agree with you. This reminded me of what someone shared at a text meeting. we did chapter 7 in the basic text Relapse and Recovery. It talks about alot of the great points you wrote about. thanks for the share

Thanks again Jayson, always words of wisdom. Unfortunately I have not had a chance to find a sponsor, so I don't know how important it is to have one. I talk often with a guy I was in rehab with. He has been a pillar for me and I think I have been the same for him. I have not gone to meetings regularly because of my travel shedule. Some times I am in the same place for a while and there are meetings. I have only gone when I really feel like I am in trouble. I will try to increase my efforts next time I am in a place with meetings. I have been to some AA meetings when there was not an NA meeting available. I did not feel the same understanding. Am I just imagining this?

In recovery Kenh.
