Hi, in my experience NA meetings are classified as either 'open' or 'closed'. Open meetings allow family members. How this applies online I have no idea but I expect one of the senior members or one of the moderators can enlighten both of us in that regard. Great question. I always felt that I wanted to attend more closed meetings. Reason, I only really wanted to share with other addicts and I found that my sharing was limited if there were non addicts present. They just wouldn't get it. I think as well that there are support groups that specifically assist family members of addicts, so that family members can get the help, support and information that they need without being co-dependent. Hope this helps.

thanks Charles. I thought there would be something that deciphered the two, but the meeting schedule I found didn't. Hopefully someone on here will have additional information.

Hi Kaye, yes there are meetings for loved ones of addicts its called

nar-anonyon I'm not computer literate enough to up load the site for you ...if thats even the right term lol. I'm sure one of the more moderators will read your post soon and give you that info.

Glad you found us, good luck in your journey I think its equaly as hard to love an addict as it is to be one. Hope you find what your looking for.

Narcotics Anonymous is primarily concerned with only addicts and their recovery. However, there are open meetings too, both face-to-face and online, where the loved ones of an addict can also attend, for greater awareness about their loved one's addiction and recovery program.

But as a spouse of a recovering addict myself, I am also part of the sister fellowship of NA called Nar Anon where I can specifically work on myself in context with my loved one's addiction and the resulting codependency that afflicts me and creates havoc in my wellbeing and also the dynamics of my relationship with my addict wife. I would suggest you check out this fellowship, and I'm sure you will find the hope and freedom I continue to receive from Nar Anon too...

Thanks, Kaye, for the post. I am a parent of an addict and have been looking for a group to help me in MY recovery. I have gone to Al Anon meetings but don't feel I quite relate to them. I understand that I, too, should have a sponser to work thru the 12 steps to understand my addict and myself better. Having only recently started trying to get involved, I am having difficulty with this. Any suggestions on how to get started would be appreciated.
