Hi all !!!

Heres a subject for thought and I hope you can give me valuable insight !!!

Its like this=

Many of you know I play music for a living,,, i know of no other skill i can use for my daily bread !!!

recently I found out at the local Convention that ive been a topic for discussion,,,,

this happened when a newcomer told me how hed heard that I play in places where thers grass being blown and likker being served and still dont use !!

Ive told him that I never play inn places where thers grass or smack or hash or crack being smoked,,, I know that even the exhaled smoke form users can put me in a dangerous spot,,, so i never play in those kind of shows !!!

However many of my shows are at places where liquor is served,,,, clubs, restaraunts, parties etc !!!

At these places my focus is simply to play my music,,be appreciated,,, give out a few cards have dinner and split.

I never socialize with customers and dont chill with any of them !!!

I dont even look at what they are drinking or any such ting !!!

I just play my music !!!

Music is God for me and their claps and appreciation is Life Force !!!

But thats it,,, like Dylan once said

"" Now just cause you like my music I dont owe you nothing !!!""

I however dont act like im unsocial or anything like that !!

the other day i asked a recovering addict who plays guitar  to play with me in one of these places .

He asks his sponsor and then tells me

"No maybe its not a good idea to play where theres liquor being served and i have to watch them"

in fact I was hoping hed support me in recovery there and I can be a suport to him too !!!

the belief that just because of long clean time ive somehow overcoem temptation is not true,,, its basically Higher Powered !!

So that led me to thinking of the music played by a band of recovering addicts at the Convention=

all they did was songs that said how great it was to use,to booze to sex out etc !!!

So im wondering if this is a correct thing to do at a Convention,,, where were passing the message of recovery !!!

And also whether Im justified and correct to ask fellow recovering members who play music to be with me in my shows for mutual support ???

and whether Im correct to voice my concience that its wrong to play using songs at NA Convention ???

any sharings,,, especially of personal experiences(please forget lectures and moralizing!!!) will really guide me in my ongoing recovery !!!
