Step Work Board Info

Please accept this as your personal invitation to join us at the Miracles In Progress 12 Step Recovery Forums Step Work Board and share with us, your own experience, strength and hope.  If you are new to recovery, you can ask questions related to the 12 Steps here, see how others work and apply the steps in their lives, etc.

http://stepwork.activeboard.com

General protocol for the Step Work board is simple;  Every two weeks we review one of the 12 steps.  We do this in the order the Steps were written.  Each 12 step group on the MIP forum should have a group representative give a basic outline of the current step we are working on, from that 12 Step organizations perspective.  Then everyone else shims in, and shares their experience, strength and hope related to the step, under the outline given by the group they align themselves with.

http://stepwork.activeboard.com

Newcomers are especially welcome to participate on this board.  It serves as a excellent way to get familar with the steps, how they are worked, what benefits people gain from working them, and a great resource of insight from many should you have any questions about the steps.

http://stepwork.activeboard.com

It is important for us to remember that the meetings are our fellowship, but the 12 Steps is our program of recovery.  Both provide us with the opportunity to give and get support to eachother.

A generalized theme of sharing is: What it use to be like, what happened, and what its like now.

Please join us on the Step Work Board, your support, experience, strenght and hope is valuable to us here at Miracles In Progress.

http://stepwork.activeboard.com

By the way... YOU are the Miracle In Progress!

John

hi guys , about 12 steps. although i've been going to na ans aa meeting for the past 4 months , i still haven't started any steps although i do have the step books. i'd like to start them, but a friend in NA suggested i get a sponser first , because even the first step could be heavy...intense , etc.

how do i get a sponser and what does one really do for a person. i've heard of people being in the program for years and still not have one...

my problem is that the few girl na members that show up are too flighty to rely on and the others are too busy , there are a couple i could try in AA but i don't think they would understand the kaous us addicts go through like sleep depravaton and the constant "High" .

should i settle for an AA sponser or should i just wait on the steps and NA sponser until one shows up. how about a guy sponser??? i hear that's not the best way of doing it either....

questions , questions , questions..

Hi John

This seems to be a very effective way to help in recovery but what exactlly are you looking for.

Are you asking that all of us here work the steps together, if so, how do you plan for that to work. I am presently working the steps with my sponsor. Please get back to me on this, I am intrigued. Thanks John, Take care and have a good 24.

questions , questions , questions..

Greetings Peggy, there is a suggestion regarding sponsorship given in our literature that we can work our steps in many ways, but not alone... But, even that, there are some members I know who are doing that and expressing that it has helped... However, I have tried it umpteen times without success... for me, it just did not work...

I first came to NA in 1999. And it took me 5 years in NA to eventually manage to stay stopped till this day only from 2004. My last relapse was when I was 7 months clean, and that was the third time I had made 6 months clean. Before my last relapse, I was doing everything as suggested. Making a meeting everyday without fail, reading literature constantly, getting involved in the group service, fellowshipping with oldtimers almost 24/7, working on a job with passion for the first time, doing well in my relationships at home... Still I managed to relapse.

When I stopped using after a couple of days and wondered what the hell went wrong, and how could I end up picking drugs again when I was doing everything right in NA, I found only one thing missing in my recovery ~ I DID NOT HAVE A SPONSOR AND WAS NOT WORKING THE STEPS. I'm grateful for this realization and that relapse that made this most powerful tools, the core of our program, available in my life today. I never had to use again as yet...

For me, staying clean alone is NOT recovery. Recovery begins when I have stopped using and am staying clean... that is when my journey began... I had to let go of my addictive self to change... my old ideas, attitudes and perceptions had to go... they had to be replaced with new ones... If I don't change, I have no chance at recovery... I need to grow by working the program in my daily life... Only that way can I arrest the progression of my disease which manifests not only thru physical use of drugs, but also mentally and emotionally, socially and spiritually... in fact, these manifestations of my disease is what takes me back to using again and again...

And to bring about this change and to recover, I found ony the Twelve Steps as the solution. And to learn and live these steps in my recovery, I need a Sponsor who has been there and who is living the program (the steps) and have found this new way of life. The steps I practice today work for me because they worked for my sponsor and for my sponsor's sponsor and so on... That is how they have been passed on... and they work for my sponsees too today and for their sponsees too...

If not for my relapses, I would have had a cleantime of more than 5 years now, not a couple of years, but I wouldn't have wanted it that way... I wouldn't have picked up a Sponsor... I wouldn't have worked the steps... I wouldn't have got what I have got and continue to receive as a result of the miracle of living these steps in my daily life...

All we need is a desire to work the steps. When I looked for a Sponsor who can guide me thru the steps, I could find none as I was the first one to work the steps in my hometown fellowship. I still sought, in AA, thru step working groups with like-minded other members, and also online...

In fact, my first sponsor was a "she" and was from another country. My current sponsor is an online one. I haven't met him face-to-face ever and probably might not too, but it works for me... I continue to work the steps with him today... Both my first sponsor and the current one have been the guiding lights in my recovery. They did not work the program for me, but they did passed on the program to me so that I can work them and reap the rewards, just like they do...

I can also forward you the link to this online sponsorship site where I found my sponsor if you could PM me here or mail me at polartorch@yahoo.co.in

There are many awesome sponsors available at this site, both male and female, who can guide you thru the steps...

Also, JESSME, you too feel free to PM or mail me if you are interested...

All the best in both of your endeavors to find a Sponsor and work the steps... It's worth it... You will be glad you took the effort...

Prayers, Hugs and Love ~ Tahir.

I think one of us can just type a small portion of each step every week or fortnight on a sticky post and allow everyone to share their answers to the questions and also their experience, strength and hope on the portion posted as step work for that week or fortnight, and then we move on to the next extract from the Step Working Guides... What do you say, Dalin...

Since, we have so many versions of step guides that we each follow, to reach at a commonality between us, let's try out the Approved Step Working Guides... I guess I would also enjoy it as I never got to try it out as I worked my Steps with a different guide and format till now... Let's do it as fun in recovery... as a group experience...

Waiting to hear from you, Peggy, BigV, Adriana, Lon, John, Raman, Sheila, Bunny, Jessme, Marek, Solvejg, Barbara, Sarah, and everyone else here at MIP.

I am ready to volunteer to type from SWG and post it every fortnight on our step work sticky here too...

Hugs, Love, Light ~ Tahir.

The SWG is not the only way (or in some ofour opinions the best way) to work the steps, it hadn't been published when I got clean, so my 1st sponsor had me use some work sheets that Greg P had written. I've since done the steps with the SWG, & another guide that I'm not sure who wrote.
So what is the best way to work the steps? answer_ the way your sponsor tells you to.
The right way to work the steps? answer - the only WRONG way to work the steps is alone (without a sponsor).

Well said, addict2297!

I worked my steps the first time around with a Sponsor from Europe, and they had their own format that worked wonderfully well for me.

The second time around I've been using the Green-and-Gold SWG, and I also work on a particular part of Step writing from a couple of other formats that an ex-member from here passed on to me, including the one you mentioned above, that of our beloved member Greg P...

I've come to an understanding today with the help of my first Sponsor that the very fact that a Sponsor passes on a particular format to a Sponsee means that it has been working for the Sponsor over the years, and for the Sponsor's Sponsor who passed it on to him/her and so on... More than the worksheets or guides, I believe it's working with the guidance of a Sponsor, no matter which format, that is very vital.

Step writing does lend a more truer and better understanding and awareness about our disease, our past life, ourselves, the world around us and so on, but I've found that the most important aspect is when one starts practising each of these steps after writing them in their daily lives, and in all areas of life, and this can only be possible with the help, guidance and shared E, S & H of a Sponsor...

My first attempt at stepwork with a few others at my hometown fellowship was through a Stepwork Group since we did not have any members who have been through the process of 12 Steps before us in our local fellowship. We took the first three steps and met each week to share our answers to a particular set of questions from each of the first three steps in that order. It was an amazing experience for a few of us. We felt that all of a sudden staying clean and facing the existential problems of staying clean and facing reality from the scratch was no more miserable as we perceived it to be, we stopped sharing with each other that typical one-liner that we otherwise used to tell each other as soon as we met each other before having a working program in our life "Recovery sucks man"... lol...

We started healing, a great peace enveloped us when we realized that all we had to do was admit our powerlessness and unmanageability instead of fighting hard to control things, people and situations around us, and instead open our minds to a loving Higher Power and allow that Power to be in charge, to take care of us through everything that life sent our way on a daily basis. We were overawed by the paradox of actually winning for the first time through admitting defeat and surrendering; also by the fact that for the first time we could look upto a Higher Power without any conflicts or fear or abandonment! What a miracle it was, the experiences of that stepworking group!

Hello. I am new to NA on the internet. Just trying to find out how it works and find my way on here. I will gladly accept any help or guidance. 11 years in NA. I do have a question though, how can the home page use the NA symbol if this is not a WSO recognized group? Or are the individual groups recognozed, but not the website. I do believe that breaks traditions. If someone could explain that to me I would be grateful-because I am very protective of my recovery and will not discuss my recovery without knowing more. Thank you!

I think the best way to put this might be we are affiliated with and we are members of NA here keeping this place alive. I'm sure if you look enough on the threads you will see where this has been discussed.

There are copy write material laws that we are supposed to follow we do the best we can following those laws, just a guess here but The admin of this website probably has permission to use those logos or symbols he wouldn't do anything without following guidlines

This is not an official Narcotics Anonymous site,
nor is it endorsed by the Narcotics Anonymous World Service Office.
This site is developed and maintained by members of the
program of Narcotics Anonymous,
People who are not using and who have found a new way of life.

If you would like more information or a clearler statement then please email John ( Admin ) at mip@12stepforums.net.

To add a personal note here I am not protective of what I have and have been given , personally I share it with everyone, it was a gift and in return its a gift I share, each to there own decision on what they do exactly with there recovery thats what I like to share back  to you Carla, we welcome you here and thanks for coming to the board love to hear you share more .

Welcome home Carla, I'm sure you'll get to experience this place and the kindred spirits here very much NA, just like you, and grow to feel safe here among us smile.gif

Our Sponsorship Book cover says it all "The Heart of NA beats where two addicts share with each other." So I can say that the heart of NA very much beats here smile.gif

As for this problems of property, ownership and copyright stuff, I haven't got to get a clearer understanding as yet, and I don't feel I need to as I believe in what the Traditions admonish us NAs - "...lest problems of money, property and prestige divert us from our primary purpose."

And as for using NA logos and symbols, internally in the fellowship, they can be used by NA groups, either registered or not with WSO. One of the WSO bulletins says if I remember right... anyway, merely delving into all this makes me feel that I've moved far away from sharing and caring the NA way, from helping another addict stay clean and recover... lol...

Keep coming back, Carla, glad you're here with us, I'm Tahir, a grateful recovering addict of this loving family called "Miracles In Progress", NA Hugs & Fellowship Love.

Thanks guys! I didn't want to offend anyone-I just am very protective of my recovery but I am totally for the primary purpose. And yes, two addicts together is without parallel. I have seen the postings and I am amazed at the recovery and the following of the NA Tradidtions. I hope to get to know many of you and share recovery!  Again-thank you for answering my question!

i have a sponsor today i'm 28 months clean and thank you for telling what did not work in the past
my experience--- i tried doing these steps in AA AND NA OVER a period of 8 years always in and out because i failed to grasp the simple suggestion go to meetings and learn to ask for HELP.
I COULD not stay clean trying to understand the steps by myself. my understanding kept me messed up i had to learn to listen because left to my own devices i had no working knowledge of Honest Open-mindedness Willingness to apply them in my daily life.
Suggestion: go to meetings , go early stay late if possible, talk to other addicts  and ask for help
i don't want to see another addict suffer like i did out of fear of letting someone get to know  me.

i hope this can help

Hello to all...I am very new to the whole N.A scene....have a background in nursing and have been an addict for the past 22 years... the longest i was clean was 2 years in all of that time and this last relapse was the worst...lost my job of 3 years yesterday because of drugs and have finally admitted to myself that i don't want to do this anymore...have talked to my husband and daughter, another first, and have actually found this site....please advise on what to do next...have a list of local meetings and plan to hit the meetings on this site as often as they are held, but am not sure how to start....have a pathological fear of speaking to people that i don't know, but this is different...i can actually say things online that i can't say in person.....any advice from anyone is appreciated!!  please email at siouxlee06@aol.com or post a reply here

thanks,

smile Welcome Susan. I want to applaud you on admitting you are an addict. That is the first step. I am new also. I am actually clean 90 days today. I was very scared and nervous too, I never did this before, and I didn't know what to do, or how it worked, etc....but the people here are awesome. they have time clean and know how the program works, and what we need to do for our program to work as well. Everyone is here for each other. I wish you well, and remember, its "one day at a time" OR, break it down to what you can handle (one minute or one hour at a time, etc....)don't overwhelm yourself, this isn't a race. If there is anything I can do, please let me know (Lorideemiller2@aol.com) ok. remember, were here for each other, one addict helping another. Take care and God Bless always.....

a very grateful recovering addict,
Lori Dee

I do call my sponsor, but she don't call back alot of the time, and I haven't been able to start the steps yet, because I've been working on them by myself, but I need help?? I don't want to relapse. I have 90 days clean today, and I don't want to blow this...........thanks again. take care and God Bless always.

Hi LoriDee. If you are still having trouble contacting your sponser it is my suggestion that you  try to find one that is more accessable. In the mean time continue to read your basic text to get a better understanding of the nature of our disease. Maintain your faith in Narcotics annonymous that it really does work. Build a strong clean support system by getting numbers from other addicts in the meetings you go to an start calling them, even if it is just to say hello. Doing this may lead you to a new sponser. I want to congradulate you on your clean time and just keep coming back.

I'm sorry, I was away from MIP for a while now, and then when I got back, I had forgotten my password, and so I was logging in with my other old account here. I retrieved my lost password for this id just now, and read these messages.

I was in fact trying to get NA participation too at the MIP Step Work Board forawhile but then somehow lost interest as there was not much participation from us there. Also, could not continue to commit because of my own circumstances.

Lori, if you are still coming here, I shall post here the details of one place where you can find a Sponsor. I found my ex-Sponsor of 3 years there.

This online group is called Earth Group of NA. The link is www.earthgroupna.org

There after you register, just a formality like you would have registered here, under the forum there, you will find a thread/topic called e-Sponsor or something like that. You will find a list of volunteers (for both men and women) who are willing to help others out as a Sponsor. I've known members from there for quite a few years, and believe me, you have a real chance of finding a Sponsor there. I say this because I did, and it was a rewarding experience for my recovery, in fact, my ex-Sponsor from there played the most crucial role in guiding me through some of my threatening crises in early recovery.

Also, there should hopefully be a trusted servant list there, look out for e-Sponsor coordinator, contact him/her, and they may be better able to help you find a sponsor. Hope you'd log in here and get to read this, fellowship hugs and best wishes.

welcome ME2BRANDIE, you can also participate in Step Work here at Miracles In Progress at the below link...

http://stepwork.activeboard.com

On this MIP forum, give a search for NA step topics/threads, and you will get to share as well as benefit from others' experience, strength and hope on each Steps...

Besides, formal stepwork, you can always find a lot of recovery happening here at this forum where you've posted above. Being part of this online NA Group has been a rewarding experience for me in the last few years. There's a lot of support, warmth, sharing and caring here that I need to continue to stay clean and recover smile

Best wishes!

Yes it's a separate forum/message board just like this one, so it's the same process - we can always register there and use/participate as we do it here...

Hi! John this is my first using this high technology for a meeting.  I have found since I am up in my late sixties and still working my home group is on Saturday nights by the time 7pm comes around I am in for the night. During the week I am up at 4am and work until 3:30pm on the clock and until 5pm off the clock.  I work in the field of addiction.  So once I was informed about meetings on the  internet.  I am reconnecting myself so I can work on the steps and the traditions and stay in tune to the recoverying process.  I see the meeting is monday thru Friday at 10pm with this I can basically adapt to this process.  I am reaching out for directions.  aww   Grace and Peace

Hi CHeriR!!! You can visit the online meetings, look at the list of online sponsors or try to get phone numbers so you can get to someone faster than waiting for a reply. You can e mail me at baitosan@gmail.com and I will be more than willing to talk to you and listen if you leave me your number. I have unlimited cellular to cellular talk time. I am so glad you reached out!!!!!

It is never good to have a member of the opposite sex be your sponsor. I'd look for an older lady with a good program of recovery. I am a NA member (recovering crack addict) and the lady I found that fit me best was in the AA program. She understood the feelings I had. The same feelings apply to Drug Addicts as well as the Alcoholic. A sponsor has to fit you like your favorite pair of jeans. If you seem to have a hard time finding that right fit, try going to other meetings and asking around. Pray and ask your higher power to place a person in your life to do your steps with. When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.

There is a lot that members have shared on Step Two at the Stepwork forum.

After logging into this forum - http://stepwork.activeboard.com, give a search for 'Step 2' or 'Step Two', you will find lots of experience, strength and hope through various members' sharings there on the topic threads... Hope this helps...

Hi everyone, I'm brand new here, was looking at some posts, and I know this one is AGES old, but it's exactly what I'm going through.  I have a sponsor, kind of, but she's really really busy all the time and we haven't really "connected" I'm pretty shy and have a hard time picking up the phone, and need to call people more...

hi guys , about 12 steps. although i've been going to na ans aa meeting for the past 4 months , i still haven't started any steps although i do have the step books. i'd like to start them, but a friend in NA suggested i get a sponser first , because even the first step could be heavy...intense , etc.

"how do i get a sponser and what does one really do for a person. i've heard of people being in the program for years and still not have one...

my problem is that the few girl na members that show up are too flighty to rely on and the others are too busy , there are a couple i could try in AA but i don't think they would understand the kaous us addicts go through like sleep depravaton and the constant "High" .

should i settle for an AA sponser or should i just wait on the steps and NA sponser until one shows up. how about a guy sponser??? i hear that's not the best way of doing it either....

questions , questions , questions.. "

Hi everyone, I am new here, and I know this post is AGES old, but what this person shared here is EXACTLY what I'm going through...

I keep ckicking on your step work board link and getting AL ANON???
.

.....hi there 'I'mready'.....it turns out that that link -is- correct....it goes to a stepwork forum,,,used by all or many or some 12 step groups.....The page that shows up gives the most recent posts,,,showing what groups are more active.

stepwork.activeboard.com

...to find 'some' details of NA stepwork,,,try searching 'NA step___' and it'll show you some.

...as John says,,,NA members haven't been so active there,,,,,if you have a specific question, step 3 or otherwise,,,I'd suggest you post it on -this- forum,,,where NA members are more likely to answer.....hope this helps,,,,all the best!....m

.....from John.......''It goes to the correct page, the StepWork page, but it is mostly active by the Al-Anon group because other groups are not posting the step work for themselves. A group should have a lead person, doing the same step as other groups are, so people can see how the steps can be applied by all people in all kinds of situations, Then when they have posted, invite their group members to join them and share their experience, strength and hope in the group thread they are aligned with. ACA and Al-Anon seem to be pretty active on the board, I wish someone would step up for Narcotics Anonymous on the board and get their group involved. It really gives the newcomer insight and familarity with the steps and gives the old timers a place to give away what they have so they can keep it.''

...between their sponsees and their own 'real-life' issues,,,,,some sponsors can get verrrrry busy....it can also be difficult for them to know who's 'in' or 'out' at a given time unless the sponsee is keeping in touch!.........my sponsor helps me do the steps---he  is not responsible to call me or keep me clean!

.....when I first came in,,,I found it useful to call -someone-,,,, -every- day,,,however I was feeling......I used the phone list I was given at my first meetings as a start,,,then sponsor,,,,but called another member if my sponsor was too busy and I needed to talk.....I find it helpful to keep a few #'s,,,stay in touch with a number of people--there's -always- someone who's ready, willing,,and happy to talk

We don't have on line sponsors here. Maybe you can find one elsewhere.

Hello,
My question is how long do you need to stay on step ten? I PRATICE MY DAILY INVENTORY EVERYDAY and I know it is an important step I just don't want to stagnate on it.
