Relapse

I am fresh out of inpatient treatment last night, and I have already relapsed. I'm 18 years old, and still live at home, and my parents are freaking out. After I had my relapse last night, which was stupid, I know, I came to the conclusion that it really wasn't worth it, not worth throwing away my life. I plan on finding a meeting for tonight. I just had to tell someone what was going on...

Sometimes we can use a relapse as the springboard to throw us back into a more rigorous application of the NA program. Read recovery and relapse chapter in the basic text, and keep coming back. I wish I had found this program at your age! You have a tremendous life ahead of you if you go down the path of recovery, and you know already what is down the other path. Misery, etc. Why not try the path you haven't taken, and see what is in store. You have no idea of the good things that await you.
Make a list of where you would like to be in a year. Keep it, and stay clean and at the end of the year you will be shocked at what you have accomplished. Keep your head down and keep working at it, it is hard, but worth it. Non-addicts are baffled, confused, at this disease and the things we do, but addicts understand and can help if you let them.

The Ultimate Weapon for recovery is another recovering addict.

1]what fear did your relapse create?

2]what guilt did it bring you?

3]what regret did it create?

4]what harm did you do to yourself?

5]what financial harm was done?

6]what harm was done to others?

there are more questions...post a few later.

It doesn't just happen to the young, and while IT may be stupid, you're not.  You're an addict.  Maybe, as it did for me, this will show you the terrifying truth of step one:  we are all powerless over our addiction.  If it's there, were going to do it, and the only way to avoid relapsing again, is to stay away from it, from those who sell and do it, even if they're your best friend.  If they're truly your friend, they'll understand you need to get clean.
