Hello, this is my first time here. My name is Bri and I am an alcoholic addict. I have been on dope for 7 years. I had a drug of choice that I stopped but shortly changed to others and have been just as miserable. I have been to rehab and to meetings locally. I am too anxious so I dont go, but I would love to talk to people online; have somone help me with accountability maybe like a sponsor. Thank you.
Hi Bri, Glad you found MIP. Online contact with other addicts is a wonderful resource. I do think that it is necessary to attend face to face meetings. Part of recovery is letting other people into our lives. One of the symptoms of the disease of addiction is isolation from our fellow humans. I know that I cannot stay clean without the help of others, I am thankful for those who came into recovery before me. These wonderful people took me by the hand and led me down the path of recovery, guiding me on a path I had never before travelled. Because they had travelled the path before, they understand the twists and turns involved in the journey. They also had the confidence that the journey can be made, because they have made it before.
Part of having a sponsor is having someone who knows you intimately, someone who can tell that you need to talk by how you are acting, or is able to know something is wrong simply by the tone in your voice. These abilities cannot exist in the anonimity of the internet. I understand that keeping ourselves safe is one of the driving forces behind isolation Remember that all of recovery is a leap of faith! Addicts around the world, from every lifestyle, and every outlook on life have learned a new way to live through the miracle of Narcotics Anonymous. Courage is not a lack of fear; it is being afraid and doing what needs to be done anyway.
You can do it! Welcome home.

hi and welcome! lon is right, meetings are the foundation. the importance of being hooked in with people that have clean time and can help you to understand and work the steps is the key to recovery.there is a saying "together we can" and it is very true. like any gathering you will meet all kinds of people, dont cheat yourself of the experiance of fellow addicts who will really show you what true friendship is. they really do care. good luck! and again welcome!
