I have been a crack addict for 12 years (45 yrs old) and a couple of years ago I had to have a microdiscectomy/laminectomy which left me with level 8 or 9 pains 24/7. I am currently trying to get into a long term addiction recovery facility but all of them want me off of all my meds. This I believe will not be possible, maybe reduced as my pain is extremely intense. Can anyone help me with some options other than soboxone or methadone? I just tried committing suicide due to the pain and the addiction working in unison driving me down to the point that I just didn't want to live anymore. I repeat my chronic pain never stops, ever!
Thanks in advance
I would be willing to travel just about anywhere to due the long term dual diagnosis treatment
welcome to the NA forum '421'. ...'pain 24/7' is indeed a tough challenge to deal with,,,probably 10x so when mixed with the power of 'other' drugs that we administer on top of prescribed painkillers.
''I would be willing to travel just about anywhere to due the long term dual diagnosis treatment''.....how about starting with addicts helping addicts in your home town,,at no cost!??
There's an NA phrase that I remembered last night when considering your post... ........ 'the power of one addict helping another'.
I wonder if you're currently attending NA meetings, or considering such? In my recovery, I've attended recovery houses a few times in the past,,but indeed nowhere have I found a stronger healing influence than in getting down to it with NA, and honestly working the steps with a sponsor.
Tradition three states... ''The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop using.'' You don't need to have quit before attending meetings.
Many who fully surrender and apply themselves to the program start to find relief from the torment similar to what you're going through, often this begins the first day they admit they have a problem and ask for help. There's quite an amazing alchemy in taking this first step,,and the power continues as one finds a sponsor, and takes a leap of hope, faith and trust and starts working the steps.
12 step programs have proven to be very successful in helping people who feel lost, overwhelmed and indeed incapable of living life clean,,, by taking it .......one day at a time.
I wish you the best in finding the right answer for YOU!

Had a friend getting treatment with a roomful of others in similar circumstances. Instructor
went around the floor and verbally spelled out each addicts dual/tri/etc afflictions. He the said
"What do we share in common"? ........Hi answer was "We have to try that much harder then the average Addict"
In other words, you have TO TRY. Just try our way, you CAN do it. If you are always a 8-9 level pain, and the drugs aren't
working like they use to, then maybe it's time to try something else. Many come into the rooms when the drugs no longer help with the pain of not using.
