Hello all! My name is Amy and I'm an addict (however, this post is not about me). This is my first time posting here so I apologize if this has been asked before.
When I met my sons father (we are separated at the moment but are trying to work things out so I don't really know what to call him!), he had been in recovery for a few months and was on Suboxone. Fast forward, he's now been on it for 6 years with the majority of those years being on 2mg daily. He cut down to 1mg on Wed, Thur and Fri and hasn't had it since. When he told his doctor he wanted off, his doctor told him it's never a good idea to stop and everyone should be on it forever. Very encouraging.
The main purpose of this post is to ask if anyone has successfully detoxed from Suboxone. I'm interested in knowing how long you were on it, your dose before "jumping" and how long it took you to feel better. The internet is full of stories ranging from "it was nothing after using it for years" to people resuming the medication after day 45. He is very scared about how long this will last and I want to be able to give him some real life examples from people serious about their sobriety.

I can only tell you what I've heard, that's it hurts more to get off Suboxone then off of Heroin itself. But it is possible. We believe using it is NOT living clean.
It is up to him , it is a big step , because he has to get it out of his system . It could be hell for a while ,while his body detoxifies.Good luck , you can do it man .
Davethewave, by saying "We", you are speaking for the entire community and I know this is a heavily debated topic. I am not going to have that debate with you though as no where in my post did I ask "Is using Suboxone considered being sober?" I will pray that maybe one day you will have a change of heart and understand that those who use Suboxone for opiate-dependent maintenance and do not abuse it, are just as sober as you since they are not getting a "high" from it (such as someone with PTSD who is prescribed Klonopin to keep them sane during flashbacks of being raped or beaten might).
