My heart stopped as well CD, for just about the same length of time. I had significant brain damage when I returned. But I have discovered a personal truth about addiction since then: Addiction is like a trampoline. The lower you go, the higher you can fly.
hi, I am a believer of Jesus, I love him with all my heart. I hope this does not sound dumb, but. I was in a car accident a couple years ago, and had my back I juried and knee surgery 3times, I still have pain. and can't find anything to help with the pain, they put me on Vicodin, and I trying to wean off it, but I need Gods strength , to help me , I feel like I have no will power to . how do. I call on the lords. higher power, I pray. and pray, I know it is up to me, but I keep. giving in. and. just take a pill, I am on. 3pills a day, when I cut them in half's I get withdrawal symptoms, so I go ahead and take the whole thing, it's. like I don't have the power to go through withdrawal. pain. I. had lung cancer 15 years ago, I had my lung removed, I had chemo and radiation , which was very painful, I was on Vicodin then , but after the treatment was over and I felt better I just stopped them, but. I am having. trouble stopping them this time...I guess cause I have been on it longer.
please tell me how to call on the higher power, I need him , and I need someone to talk to me as I go through withdrawal..

thank you for listening, .
hi Sunsup,,welcome..I'm sorry to hear you're struggling. ..there's nothing 'dumb' about what you shared-sadly yours is a common story in 'the rooms'.....
In NA, we talk about God and our higher power a lot ,but perhaps recovery is similar to cancer treatment--a multi-pronged approach where perhaps 'turning-it-over' to one's HP is the 'heart' of the program,,,but there's other essential ingredients found in the rooms of NA,often church basements**....where live ,in person contact and sharing happens,,,finding & relating to a sponsor,,'giving back' in service work,,and above all the process one goes through in 'doing the steps'-a fairly formal process where a fair bit of 'alchemy' takes place....it's often said ,,in fact I believe it's a -promise- that one finds a -new-way-to-live- through doing the steps!!
...for many the above cannot be achieved in a vacuum,,or online,,,or only with ones religious affiliation,,but only through following the full program thoroughly....after MUCH research and experimentation--I know it's that way for me...perhaps you as well??....nothing beats the relief of sharing one's story with other addicts at a meeting........all the best
.....**....Carl Jung was quoted as saying that there's often more going on in the basements of churches than the churches themselves--he was referring to 12 step work.

hi, what is the 12. steps... I don't drive anymore because of my knee, so I really can't go to meetings..
but I would like to talk to a sponsor , how would I call one. there are a few church's that have meetings, maybe call one of them.?
thanks for your reply.

...it's ~6am here,,always nice to wake with the sunup!
.....google's your friend,my friend!...try '12 steps of NA'....you'll likely see that your first post covered the 1st 2 steps pretty well!
.....there's likely also a 'NA helpline' in your area....sometimes these aren't 'manned' fulltime,,,but hopefully someone can get back to you with a local contact and meetings in your area,,,maybe there's some assistance to get to meetings...or some other creative means to help you out. In the meantime,,you're certainly welcome to keep some dialogue here if you want-either in the forum or private message if you prefer.
In NA,,,you'll find that the newcomer is the most important person at any meeting--your story helps us remember what it was like when we first came in. As a newcomer at meetings,,many get taken aback sometimes by the humor and laughter at meetings--as much as things can feel hopeless in the beginning,,,as we recover, humor can replace the misery we first felt
.........if you're accustomed to prayer,,,you might try the 'serenity prayer'....it's often used at meetings and can be helpful in times of struggle,,,as is the phrase 'just for today'....
