I guess it's just a part of the new digital age of smartphones, we seem to get so many One Hit Wonders...you know the one post and done...it seems strange.
My favorite is when they post a question and then never come back to see the replies.
I believe as often as not it's not that they don't come back to see the replies but rather it's as Jack Nicholson blares in the courtroom scene of A Few Good Men "You can't handle the truth". And sadly they fade away to find those who will co-sign their disease saying what they want to hear not what they need to hear, the truth. Addiction is as deadly as the issues of that movie.

Back in the 80s and 90s I had like 24 phone lines that would jump from the primary. If one came direct to one specific number of the slave numbers, it was a CA call. Most of the outreachers were obviously hurting..few took advise....BUT.....some might have found recovery at some point. We may not see the results, but perhaps we have planted seeds which just might save someone's life when they are at the moment of desperation!
If you go to their profile you can see "last access"
You would be amazed at how many people join up, make one post
and then never come back to see the replies.
I'm always a little like "dude, why bother?" LOL
Yes guys! Seeds it is! You are all amazing and for those that want to heed your advice they will come around in their time... not necessarily here but maybe at a meeting.
As for me you'll find I come around when I'm struggling the most and need to vent or read a little for inspiration to carry on and I appreciate all your efforts!
Thanks!

It's because online discussion forums are a waste of time. They mostly exist to promote the sponsor of the website which often links a fake photo with a fake poster.
There's minimal interest in helping other people. It's all about the advertising and the self-promotion.
Some people, like myself, use discussion forums to post ideas. I have no genuine expectation that anyone will read them or be affected by what I post. Nor do I care.
Some of what you see written in a "Discussion Forum" is posted by AI software.
Do you think people enjoy anonymous conversations with potentially non-existent human beings? Don't bother answering because I probably won't read it anyway.
I am new to this site and am trying to figure out how to manuever around it. I am blind and that makes it even more difficult. Some of my visual-aids do not pick up everwhere that I go. Also, I am very busy between meetings, learning Braille, going to the Independent Living for the Blind and School that I don't have a lot of time to spend on-line and it is time consuming trying to figure out how to manuever around this site, but I am working on it. Just have to do it between everything else that I am busy doing.
I don't know about these people that just come onto the site, post and then go and that's really none of my business. It is their job to work out their own recovery. I do know that eventually we are able to get our lives back and become productive members of Society and that some people have busy lives. I often times go back to read a post, but don't have time to respond at that time. Sometimes I do go back and respond and sometimes I get so side tracked with all that is going on that I completely forget about coming back and responding. Sometimes, a responce is not necessary either....just the information. Whenever we discuss recovery, I am sure that a seed is always planted although we may not be around to see the outcome. I am only responsible for planting the seed and sharing my expierence, strength and hope and then I leave the results or the outcome to my H.P. or theirs.
What is a discussion forum and where are they located? I've only had a computer for three years and during that time have been dealing with strokes, lots of surgeries, cancer and blindness so have not had a lot of computer expierence.
Anyway, grateful to be clean and sober and most of the time......serene. SMILE!
HI Dusty and welcome to MIP.
Yours is an incredible story but it may be missed by those who have grown tired of this thread.
May I suggest that you start a new thread introducing yourself and telling us a little bit about yourself.
Message boards are places where someone can post a statement, question, or topic and then others comment on it.
It differs from chat in that people who respond to the original post are not usually online at the time it was posted.
I prefer this to chat. It is more leisurely and IMHO more meaningful.
Hope to hear more from you.
Wow dustina, thank you for sharing! I don't know how you use a computer without eyesight. If you want someone to talk to, private message me and ill wend you my cell number.
Thanks everyone. Am not sure what MIP stands for nor IMHO. Not sure what the White Board is either. My computer visual screen reader does not pick up abbreviations or slang. I haven't figured out yet how I go about private messaging either. Guess I will eventually figure all of that out. Am just trying to figure the lay out at this time. My personal e-mail is willyboy12@yahoo.com as "Willy" is the name of my Guide Dog. My visual aids are better equipped to pick up on my personal e-mail than they are in groups or message boards as many sites are not set up to accomodate something called the DPI within their computers to allow those with visual impairment to utilize their site. Say it's not cost effective for them. I have this problem in lots of sites or groups that I go to as well. It will take some time for me to learn the in's and out's of this site, so please bare with me. Thank you all for being here and helping me to acquire one 24hr. period at a time. Grateful, no matter what! "Dusty"
This is a place for people to share there experience strength and hope, to share there thoughts and feelings and to get others thoughts and feelings on the subject of addiction and the recovery from that addiction, learning to live life on lifes terms without the aid of drugs, which is not an easy task for many of us true addicts.
Online forums are absolutely not a waste of time at least not for a few of us here, this place gave me the opportunity to get help, and i got invaluable help from others. Its also allowed me to give back .
If your opinion is that this is a waste of time then why be here, if your here just to bring turmoil ill make sure you get the boot in your ass out, it's not for everyone but for some its been a life saver so I think anything, any place who's intention is to help and serve others, its definetly not a waste of time.
There are people, real people who post here with years of recovery and experience under there belts who give freely, this is called altruism, selflessness which is "the principle or practice of concern for the welfare of others. It is a traditional virtue in many cultures and a core aspect of various religious/spiritual traditions", so this place is about giving back for some of us and for some, it is to be taken and hopefully applied to your own recovery.
Wherever you get your meetings from or your expierence, strength & hope from.... it cannot be a waste of time- but is a miracle in the making. There will be those that will take advantage of it and those that will not. If it helps just ONE person to get thru whatever they are dealing with and to make it another day clean...then how can anyone say it is a waste of time? It's all about openmindedness. There are many who suffer from illness or other health issues that make it difficult for them to get to meetings. It only takes two people, to have a meeting and if I can get that on-line when I cannot get to a meeting....it keeps the miracle alive. Grateful for the rooms, no matter where they are. In a building or on-line. I keep what I have so freely been given by giving it away. Thank you to those who came before me and those who came behind me. I need all of you.
IMHO stands for 'in my humble opinion' it is one of many abbreviations people use on message boards and in chat rooms.
Just so you know....there are no online meetings here. I know that meetings are listed but they do not happen. Maybe that will change someday,
but for now it's message board only.
The whiteboard is on your profile page....It's where people can post a message directly to you. It is NOT private. We do have
a private message capability as well.
Thanks for clarifying what those abbreviations stand for. I'm not real up to date on all there terminology these days and my screen reader cannot read slang or abbreviations so I am left putting the pieces of the puzzle together to make sence. You say that there are "no online" meetings here, but IMHO when you post a problem that one might be having or you are sharing your expierence, strenth and hope with another recoving addict (on-line) untilizing the steps and the principles that in a way, it is an on line meeting as it only takes two to have a meeting. A sharer and a sharee. SMILE! I know that I am truly grateful to wherever I get my expierence, strength and hope from that helps me to put another day clean cuz after all....a day clean is a day won and it is truly a miracle that any of us are alive, not in an asylum or in prison for the rest of our lives. WE ARE, MIRACLES!
I absolutely love your attitude.
Yes, any sharing of ESH (experience, strength and hope) is a meeting of sort.
You are a wonderful addition to humble site.
Keep coming back.
Please.
Grateful to have found this site. Did it by accident even tho H.P. must have led me here. And thank you for your kind words, Avid. One question, I see names such as "Guru", "Member" and "Senior Memeber". What does that all mean?
Oh my, don't put that "Guru" status on me. I am not an NA Guru, just another addict in recovery trying my best to apply the Spiritual Principles of this program and to work and live the steps. "Guru's" eventually get knocked off of their pedistal.
LOL I hear ya'
Believe me, no one would ever accuse me of being an NA Guru.
All that means is that I'm a POSTING guru.....
It's kind of like clean time, no matter how many days, months, or years since your last time using,
all we really have is today.
