I also have a Hiatal(however you spell it ) in my groin area for over20 years now.Lifting weights ,running marathons,etc..My excuse to get it fixed was always well I won't be able to train if I get it done,Im afraid I'll never be the same there, blah ,blah..In fact on my medicare advantage check up few weeks back,Dr.says thats quite a big hernia you got there ,want to get it fixed?I said nah and he said well its okay, doesn't seem to be bothering anything and let me know if you change your mind. And by the way I got a couple myself never got fixed....I still debate it cause its like big.Anyway I still lift weights, very light bench 80ls high reps to eliminate my man boobs and light flys for pec sag.I havent been running like I used too but also have a free membership thru medicare advantage and may go back to treadmill, although I hate running on them...I use an ab roller but have to be careful with that because of my groin hernia so I think its important to get the damage checked out, decide what to do,it is supposed to be a quick easy fix(easy for them to say :) and I know if your like me the obsession and compulsion on doing things can get excellerated quickly.I still over do it from learning new bass drum and hand techniques on my drums, straining muscles, sparking up my Piriformis Syndrome I have had forever especially when marathoning ,running too fast, too fartoo long in training and pulling parts of my almost 66 year old body...Be well brother,I'll keep you in prayer let us know how you make out...I know for me I have mind of a young teenager in all its glory but my body seems a little bit farther along in wear and tear

Went to doc today....It's an inguanal hernia. Doc says to 'wait and see' because it doesn't really bother me.
I do have to modify my workouts, but I can still train.
Funny but he also has a hernia for 20 years that he never got fixed. I also found out about a couple of other people I know.
So I guess I'll just take docs advice and 'wait and see'.
I'm blessed.
God only gives us gifts and lessons.
This instance it's both.
P.s. do you wear a support or do any special exercises etc. for it?
I really agree about addiction being a disease of more . When I used all I wanted was more , more until I lost everything , all my family hated me . Now in recovery I also have a need for more , recovery that is ,I need that special bond all of us recovering addicts have to help each other .
Thanx for update Don.....When I lift furniture(moving daughter, helping others)I wear a back brace, wraps around my waist with velcro strap and suspenders and I am very careful lifting anything bending my knees etc.Careful when I use my ab roller not to strain too much. Running up major hills was always challenging but not a problem in Florida, biggest hill is garbage dump :) I would always wear a belt for deadlifts or squats but I dont do them anymore and after almost 60 years,im thinking of getting a drum stool with a backrest as now working with a 3 pc Senior circuit Band and sometimes my groin gets a little strained by hours on the stool..Be careful bud and you can work around em....I do Piriformis exercises for the pull in my muscle(can check em on google)as my spine still goes out now and again and its really annoying, takes about 5 days to straighten back up,had it for years,,Peace brother..

Sorry you got hurt. I'm 50 and have been a fitness nut since I began my recovery. I have been slowly cutting back on things over the years to make allowances for my aging body.
Thanks Dave, you are being very wise to cut back.
After some research and speaking with doc, it appears that the hernia would have prolly come up sooner or later.
They are pretty common.
If your prone to them, and there is history in my family, then as we get older they become more likely.
Still, I was definetly working out too heavy, and there is no doubt that this contributed to it happening at this time.
Once again, I'm glad your listening to your body.
