learning to trust other members

I am coming back from relapse and have had mostly wonderful contact with NA over the last 20 years. But I have also been really burned by trust, and I don't want to trust anyone again. Lucky I have a good sponsor, but I dont know how to say hello without wondering why you'd talk to me. so hello. feel free to say hi.

Hello Kateallen and Welcome to MIP!

I am an addict named Mike.....Couple things come to mind for me ,First welcome back, many of my posse didn't make it. Im sure you have heard it over and over but here it is again"Relapse can be the jarring experience that brings about a more rigorous application of the program"And secondly, why would WE want to talk with you?? Narcotics Anonymous is a WE program and one more little diddy again you heard over and over,,WE are not interested in how much you used or who your connections were, what you have done in the past, how much or how little you have but ONLY in what YOU want to do about your problem and how WE can help....

Got that said,,,,Relapse is usually accompanied by a breakdown of our daily work ,that is our reliance on a Higher Power above all, application and work of instilling our Solution, the Steps in all areas of our lives. Only you can go "inside" and see where you are /were on this? Just For Today, though you don't have to use drugs and can find that New way to live...Will it be all flowerey and easy? Absolutely not,,but we can choose how we allow situations to affect us...Trust is a big issue but I truly believe the trust that we have with our Higher Powers(whatever that is for you)sets the standard...People will always let us down,we are human and we falter, stumble and fall, based on my own evidence,,BUT WE don't have to use over it..This is not some philisophical soapbox speech im talking of up in here, its my ESH guided by my God and my support group and my daily work, day after day, week, month year that keeps me away from renewing my pain of active addiction..It is great that you have taken time to reach out and share your situation, its how we get help. You have a Sponsor and that is always the way to get the best out of our program.WE are addicts, addicts use drugs, but WE can find another way to live when the drugs are not controlling our lives..A few others will be on to share their ESH and Welcome you "home".The fellowship can offer many things to many people but our purpose as groups is to carry the message of recovery to addicts that still suffer and it is meaningful not just in word but by active actions and changes in ourattitudes and  behaviors like out 12th Step tells us..Again Welcome, glad your here stick around WE need you!!smilesmile

wow. I needed to hear that, and to thank you... I'm going to go listen to a speaker tape and pray. Thank you.

Hi Kateallen and welcome.
Listening and praying. Two solidly good things to do.
I'm really glad you stopped by.
Relapse is a part of our story for many of us. It is for me.
But your clean today and that is what matters.
Why would anyone not want to say 'hi' to you?
Your a sick addict, and guess what?
So are we all.
You are always welcome here.

Welcome. I had trouble trusting people too but I realized that I had to start trusting people in order to stay clean. The first person I started to trust was my sponsor, and I started expanding my circle of trust from there. Keep coming back.
