During my treatment in a rehab and mind you before this happened I never thought I was insane , one fine morning I was reading the NA Big Blue Book , and going through it I read a definition of WHAT IS INSANITY : It Read - Repeating the same mistakes again and again and expecting different results . This one defination alone brought me to RECOVERY I accepted my insanity and pledged never to repeat my old past mistakes.

Life changed and so did I. For better of course.

Anybody else who had similar experiences ???

Hi and welcome.
Yes, Our basic text tells us that indeed insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results.
That is crazy right? Yet, how many times did we tell ourselves something like "I'll stop using next week, or after finals,
when I get a job, etc. etc. The "I'll just use on weekends" was very popular as was "I'm gonna cut down"....and so on.
And so we admit we are powerless over this disease, that we can't play with it because it will beat us everytime,
invite a power greater than ourselvs into our life, the fellowship of Narcotics Anonymous for a start, and then we
can begin to recover.
It's a very simple, not easy program
Great to hear from you,
keep coming back.

Insanity - does it ever truely leave an addict?

Yes it is behaving in the same manner and expecting something different 'this time' hahaha

what eased my insanity was taking responsibility for my recovery, learning compassion, tolerance and live and let live. NA a simple programme for a complex person like me. In my early abstinance I thought it was perfectly logical that if I had to 'do this' others (Earth people) should have to do it to because it would make it easier for me.

my true insanity was made known to me during my first 4th step, it also revealed to me that heck I wasn't the bad bugger I thought I was, there were actual positive traits to my personality. what a relief that was, the same kind of relief I felt when I heard for the first time that I never had to use again, huge thing for an addict who had been active for the most part on a daily basis for 34 years of her life.

my sponsor was of invaluable assitance to me when I literally didn't understand what I was reading in our NA literature. I can on occasion repeat the same mistakes, once I've learned the lesson though that mistake becomes a memory and not an action. phew, as I've progressed in my recovery I've learned to make better decisions, so mistakes are minimal for me now.

keep coming back I was told, it works if you work it, it works if you don't work it, it just won't be working for you.
