WE ARE ALL THE SAME

Hello everyone my name is Tamara and I have been a struggling addict for the last 4 years with sprouts of clean time.

One very important thing ladies and gentlmen is NEVER EVER get to cocky in your soberity and think you are above and beyond it. I was the girl going to the classes swearing up and down I would never relapse. Counslers would say "relapse is apart of recovery". I heavily debated that, expressing relapsing is a choice. Yeah its a choice alright...Relapse has a way of sneaking up on you. Right when you think everything is fine. Family is great, work is going well, friends love you and then BOOM. It may be triggured by an awful event. It may be "brain chatter" getting to you but whatever the cause we are never exspecting it or ready for it. And although some of us have tools that we learned in the various groups we attended it seemes it all disapperars when relapse comes knocking at you door.

The Question then becomes how to sneak up on relapse before it sneakes up on you? I believe we first must figure out what makes us tick? Some have emtional, mental, physical or even physcological issues that we have not delt with. At least we think we have, but really have you explored what makes you tick? Think about it...lets start with this. Respond by answering what makes you tick and then as a group we can decide how to fix it or at least tame it.

Peace, Love and Soberity ya'llsmile

Welcome! The best defense against a relapse is active involvement in the NA program, which includes regular meeting attendance, working the steps with a sponsor, fellowship with other clean addicts, and service work. When people come back to NA after a relapse, I ask them what happened. Time and time again, the answer is the same: I stopped going to meetings, I stopped calling my sponsor, I stopped working the steps, etc.
Finding out what makes you tick or tame it is what happens in steps 4-10.
Keep coming back!

+1 to what Dave said.

32 years of One Day at A Time Clean by the Grace of God through the Power of NA. Relapse IS optional. "Old Timers" like me are living proof, which is one reason I Keep Coming Back. Working the NA Program always comes first and foremost before job before family before anything else or there is nothing else - is not optional in order to make relapse optional.

My names Mike, I'm a greatful Recovering Addict. Many things make me tick, endless things make me tick. Keeping my Recovery FIRST allows me to continue this Journey of Life, of Discovery, another One Day at A Time CLEAN.

Keep Coming Back, NA Works IF you Work It. A trite saying? A platitude? Maybe yet it's undeniably true.

Hey Tamara,,,, {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{recovery hugs}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

My name is Raman and Im an addict.

Thanks for reminding me Im still an addict and that Im still a recovering addict.

Lifes been hectic these days and nites,, travelling, playing music, admins, family hobby etc...
Oh God, its awesome mostly but overwhelming at times.

Like last nite, i was in a very strange space, what with the 12.12.12 event and all.
Drove 600 km, to get there in time but didnt.
Scrape with a drunken tractor driver, a fight, then ran out of diesel later, then as I neared destination, I chose to ignore the gps and
asked directions instead and that took me an hour off course.
And the travelling companion could do nothing in way of recovery/emotional support.......cant blame him as he is neither an addict nor anything but a paid employee.

So I tried the time tested route: recining the Serenity Prayer till I was restored to Sanity and Serenity.

And I i got on stage, my band had done just one song,,,, guess which ???? "Smackwater jack""... thats the one i missed.
Then we did our set and found much appreciation and applause.

Dinner was good as we chatted and I was glad there was another recovering addict person in this band.
Though not an NA member, we go back a long while, so we find Fellowship whenever we meet......

Well,, all that said, this is now top priority for me: to be recovery-centered in these Christmas/New Year times when everyone is parting and freaking out....

God Bless all the addicts wherever they maybe, we are the lucky few to get the Message, so lets be with it....

Just for today, whenever Im upset or stressed, Ill look to NA for solutions........

Take care Tamara,, and keep coming back, we need you here.
( I love your honesty)

Or.........
We can realize that we are powerless over drugs,
surrender to the disease instead of fighting it
come to believe that a power greater than ourselves can restore us to sanity
and not pick up a drug,
no matter what.
