Procrastination

Ok since you guys are such smarty pantsesbiggrin

What are some tips for overcoming procrastination?? I have gotten into the habit of putting things off and then bursting into a frenzy of "no-time left" crises mode to complete tasks. They get done, but I am afraid I am giving myself wrinkles...

Hey ALY blessings of this day

Smarty pants im not ,but procrastination,oh yeah!!!!smile

Some things that help me when I say im going to start" working out again,"join a new band, start training for a marathon, clean up the garage and oh my so many things!!!

First ,I always talk to myself...and the way I say things really make the difference..In other words when I say Mike 'you have to do this" that goes against my grain,I dont like to be told what to do even by myself :)  So I say I choose or want to do this and I will.

Next I make a point of starting small or maybe slowly(especially now some things aren't as easy as they used to be)may want to write a book, but I can just start with a page.

I also Try and eliminate the "I should do this' scenario " similar to  I have to  because then I may get flustered and go into procrastination mode.I try and think well I want to do this  cause I'll feel good afterward,so I'll take breaks ,get it done and still have to for fun(you know watch Politics, play my drums,do nothing!!!!!)

So for tomorrow ,I'll say tonight NOT  " that I have to get the garage cleaned out tomorrow and it should be done by time my wife gets home" I'll talk to myself tonight and say Mike"how bout tomorrow we clean the garage out,if we take our time, take some breaks, have couple cups of coffee,we'll' get it done(thats me and myself:) way before mama gets home,we'll feel good about it and won't have to keep thinking its something that I have been putting off. In some instances shades of my old low self esteem may jump in my head like"oh even if you do that you'll never be able to accomplish whatever"..... be gone I say,not true FEAR maybe???,FALSE EVIDENCE APPEARING REAL possibly, but I will approach and work thru that to the best of my ability and feel great after I do..

So these are some of the conversations I have with myself to help me on the old 'WELL I;LL GET TO IT SYNDROME,someday...... Did I start my training yet,did I work on that garage,no not yet,but I will...not that I should or have to but because I want to...Takes this old hardhead lot of practice, but it has helped me.........Guess thats quite a ramble but just saying.....................Peacesmile

This was a terrible problem for me for many many years.
Now, still a problem but only in certain select areas.
typically I"m now more of a "if I gotta do it, better do it now" kind of guy.

I love this

" I also Try and eliminate the "I should do this' scenario " similar to  I have to  because then I may get flustered and go into procrastination mode.I try and think well I want to do this  cause I'll feel good afterward,so I'll take breaks ,get it done and still have to for fun(you know watch Politics, play my drums,do nothing!!!!!)"

This would def work for me :)

Let me get back to you later on this (ha, ha).

But seriously, all of what has been said works for me. Another key for me is developing good habits. If I brush my teeth everyday as a matter of habit, then the issue of procrastination just doesn't come up. Same thing with other things: going to regular meetings, calling my sponsor, doing the dishes, etc.
