LOOKING FOR A SPONSOR - My qualifications to be sponsored

Looking for a sponsor,

here are my qualifications to be sponsored,

I'm a young stand up individual who enjoys chemistry, programming, and learning how to do so with efficiency. I have definitely lost a few brain cells on the way but I've come to learn my boundries as well as any person can. I am loyal, creative, and helpful when given the oppurtunity. I'm honestly looking for direction and technical support, I for some reason don't receive the opinionx from my loving and overqualified family memebers.

Kind of a jack ass at times but a considerate reminder puts me back on track.

The type of person I'm looking for to sponsor me,

I'm looking for an intelligent sponsor of either gender that I can talk science and/or computers with, as well as recovery.

Thanks for reafding :)

Probably the best way to find a sponsor is to go to lots of meetings and get to know people.
I would not recommend either gender: the literature recommends men with men and women with women to avoid sexual issues.
Careful when you use the word "intelligent" as this can be perceived as arrogant by others.
There are plenty of intelligent people in NA who do not have the book learning or degrees that others have.
Keep coming back!

Thanks for the input dave!

Not trying to be an ass, but I would like someone I could bounce ideas off of and get some input from.

As you can tell by my pathetic errors I'm not perfect or looking for perfection.

In my defense I'm averaging on 2-3 hours of sleep a night (Woot go prescribed stimulants and overtime), but that's no excuse to have spellcheck off.

Sounds like your looking for a friend.
Some of the best sponsors people in NA have, are not thier friends and never will be.
The only qualification for getting a sponsor is a desire to stop using.
As for being a sponsor...there are no absolutes but here are some suggestions...
at least a year of clean time, preferably more.
has completed the 12 steps
will make themselves available to you

My name's Mike, I'm a grateful Recovering Addict. I have 31 years years Clean. I also happen to be a low level genius with an Electronic Engineering degree but don't work in that field anymore, have chosen a different path. So what. Do tell me more about "Woot go prescribed stimulants and overtime". My addiction doesn't know the difference between prescribed or street corner speed. Doctors will precribe anything if you tell them a good story. Sounds to me like you need more than a Sponsor, sounds like you need to stop using for any hope of beginning your Journery of Recovery and finding a better way of life.

P.S. YOUR number one qualification to be a Sponsee is an honest desire to stop using and a willingness to follow good NA direction.

Thanks Mike.  I was wondering how to respond to this for two days - and you hit it.

Saying that, let me expound a bit. I just got a call from an old sponsee who had moved. He has picked up since we spoke last. Here's what he had to say:

"I screwed up. I was in a bad situation and I used rather than call. I just moved back home and I need help. Please help me work the steps. I can't take this anymore. I'm ready."

Tha makes him as qualified as anyone I've ever spoken to. Since I've sponsored him, I moved as well. He's now a few hours away from me. After determining that he is in a safe place and finding out what meeting he is going to today, I asked him to commit to calling me first thing in the morning to give me time to talk to my wife and make arrangements to go out there and pick him up and bring him to our home for a few days while we work on the steps together. Before he leaves he'll be on step nine.
