For Seasoned Recoverers

Hi,

I have a serious question about how to address my pain issue.  I don't want to go back on narcotics and I have been clean now for about seven days.  I went through the withdrawls and don't wish to go there again.  My LBP is still pretty severe.  The specialist I am seeing swears that Ultram is non-addictive and save to take.  He gave me two-hundred tabs.  I am getting contradicting information everywhere that says recovering addicts should stay away from it and that it is addictive.  Has anyone had experience with ultram, or do they know any info?

Peace

I have no experience with Ultram as my back pain is only moderate and the Chripractor I'm seeing has me in pretty good shape and I'm seeing him only once every 5 weeks.
If your Doctor knows that your an Addict and he says that Ultram is non addictive and you take it as prescribed then you should be okay.
This is a nice little board, but it doesn't get alot of action so tell your friens in recover about it. There's another board at "www.narecovery.org" where there's alot more traffic. Some of the people there know alot more about pain meds then I do so you might want to post there also. Good luck and welcome to Narcotics Anonmous. Bob.

HI Jaden,

I have lower back pain,And have expeience with Ultram....

In my experience, Ultram seemed to give me a "speedy" feeling,AND unfortunately turned me into a royal B----!!!!!

If you just went through withdrawls, ultram is totally not good to take.....It will raise your heartrate and if you are still recovering from

withdrawls, that does not feel too good...

I don't know what the deal is with your back, but L 4 & L 5  are squished in mine.

Your body went through withdrawls because when we fill our body and brains with painkillers, our

brain stops making the "natural" ones that we come equipt with.....so in turn,we climb the walls because we simply don't

have any.....your pain is natural at this point......but you will get over it....walk around, get your blood circulating...

take a hot bath.....and hold on....the rollercoaster ride will end if ya hang in there.....

Have you looked into physical therapy?

Good luck......But you don't need it you need Faith......

The medication cover or bottle will list all substances in the medicine !!!

check for diazepam, methoquolone, and such like "downers" !!

Ultimately we are responsible for our recovery,,,,

the cause of your back pain is what ?????

in my case,,im crazy for billiards,,, and each time i overdo it,,, my backs in pain !!!

Now i do Yoga to cope and the pain goes away..

but getting down to basic causes ,,, i think my (F###############) paunch is the culprit,,,,,

i dont seem to have the real desire to get back in shape like many years ago....

as far as i can tell, my paunch has been with me from age 22 or so !!!

It came and it went,,, but strange thing is that in recovery,,, its really decided to make my stomach home !!!

Im unable to decide to get rid of this unwelcome tenant,,, by cutting out fatty stuff, etc !!!

Only now at the age of 44,,, getting more into events where im featured ,,, in full piublic view,,, am i finding it enough of an embarassment to want to do something about it !!!

Im gradually doing a daily walk,,, some cutting down on fattys and sweets and of course any inoput will be welcome !!!

"PAIN CAN BE A MOTIVATING FACTOR IN RECOVERY"""" it says in the Text,,, and boy were the oldtimers right about it !!!!

Hi Jaden,
As I understand it, it's not so much about what, but how prescribed medication is taken. I am in school again to get an RN degree, and from what I have learned, people who are taking medication for pain rarely become addicted to it. However this doesn't address the issue of recovering addicts. One of the stratagies I have heard of coping with the need for medication is to allow someone else to dispense the medication to you. The important part is to take the medication as prescribed, with an awareness that our bodies can manufacture pain, to rationalize abuse of the drug. Get a second perspective on the issue, ask your pharmicist. NA has a publication "In Times of Illness" that deals with this issue. It can be found at http://www.na.org/pdf/litfiles/us_english/Booklet/In%20Times%20of%20Illness.pdf
Hope this helps.
