Take it Easy

One thing I like about recovery is that it's important to relax and take it easy.  An addict goes through a lot of difficulty, using is an intense strain on the pscyhe, it's stressful on the brain and body.  It hurts the checkbook too. Before getting clean there are a lot of ups and downs - wanting to stop using, giving in to using again, wondering how bad things are, wondering how bad things are going to get, it's not peace.  There's no predicting how bad the future might be as a result of using.

Getting clean ends the debate.  The question about whether to use or not no longer has to be considered, all time and energy can be spent to relax, be internally tranquil, and feel the amazing difference.  There won't be any harmful consequences so there are no worries about the present or the future.  Money can be used for better things, it will no longer evaporate with nothing to show for it.  Moreover, the future has the best potential because it's entered into from a very clear and peaceful place.  Recovery involves fully relaxing into the most optimal energies that exist.

One of the great gifts of recovery is learning how to relax without the use of drugs. I knew this at one time, but then I got involved in drugs and alcohol, and I couldn't relax without those chemicals in me. Stressful things happen to me today--that's just life--but with the help of NA and my higher power I can deal with them.
