Recovery poem

I wrote this when i first got clean thought it might be of help to those people just getting clean.

Goodbye my friend,

We have had some good times together.

Obtained the unobtainable.

Partied and lived the life,

The life that most people can't even begin to understand.

One phrase is all i can say

"Welcome to my World"

The world of who jacked who,

Who's got what and how much.

The world of Drama,

Where every little thind is blown so far out of proportion,

That people are ready to Kill.

Where no one trust's anybody.

The few that trust so easily,

Are used and walked on.

The world in which all that matters,

Is the next 1,2,3 Highs,

Always thinking about the next,

The next hustle, The next scheme.

There is always a way to get the next.

Well my friend I can see more clearly now.

Unknowingly you have taken away,

My life and it's meaning.

I gave you everything,

And still you wanted more.

Betrayed and hurt the people who love me,

Just to give you more.

Now i see what you do to me.

I have so much to rebuild,

So many eyes on me.

There will always be,

A little distrust and doubt.

So hard to prove,

I'm good.

It would be easier to go back to you my friend.

But you turned on me.

So goodbye my friend.

Awesome Brandy!

My addiction took everything from me, including myself...

Recovery has helped me rediscover me, the guy I always really wanted to be, but didn't know how...

16 years clean and I can truly see the gift of recovery plus all it's bonus' gifts in my life today.

I will never forget where I came from, but I won't dwell on it either... a newcomer can remind me in a few moments of the pain, misery, loneliness, fear, hurt, distrust that once lived inside of me... I don't have to go back there to be reminded.

Thanks to each of you... and to those that came before me and was here waiting for my arrival.

John
