Josh Hamilton, the star outfielder for the Texas Rangers who is recovering from drug and alcohol addiction, admitted to a slip (a few beers at dinner) last night. I'm not sure what his recovery program is, whether he is in a 12-step program or not. He has said publicly that his recovery is "Christ." That works for some people but I know that I need the experience, strength and hope of regular meeting attendance, step work, and fellowship with recovering addicts. I also am a Christian, but for me Christ works through the NA program.
Having said that, I do wish him the best and hope he is able to stay clean!

If Christ is his recovery then maybe he means the state of conciousness called "Christ".
Christ need not be necessarily associated with Jesus, though Jesus was Christ.
There is a Fellowship that has Christ Conciousness as it's main Program. They may or may not be practicing Christians. Their aim is to be Christ-like in state of mine which would mean, among other things, that they practice being neutral and not ego-centric.
Funnily nuff, they call it the 13th Step. Whereas in mainland US and continental Europe, the 13th Step refers to being sexual predators in the class rooms, for these 13th Steppers it is a state of being whicho could not or did not let transcends ego-centricity.
It is a wonderful and Powerful Program. It works mainly for those of us who could not or did not let go of fear and ego in the 12 Steps itself.
