That 1000 mile stare........

While sharing at an H&I facility late last week I couldn't help but notice that look that we all have had at one time or another(i'll keep it on me here) in our active using period. That 1000 mile stare, someone is in there and trying to get out! The main theme turned out to be from the addicts in attendance that there repeat relapses and constant switches from one institution to another were brought about by their failure to realize that once the drugs were put down the rest of the work needed to begin. The attention to the spiritual, mental and emotional part of our illness was overlooked. The recurring shares were revolving around a lack of total acceptance of utter defeat and not wanting to look at the underlying things that were keeping them in the grip. Many of us will hear the message of hope ,but many will not. We can only continue to carry that message and live our life accordingly to the principles we are taught and guided by our Higher Power's and the program of Narcotics Anonymous and the fellowship....Keeping it green for me,knowing by God's grace I know longer have that "stare"I am part of a process and a fellowship that by working to maintain a fit spiritual condition ,a day at a time,a daily reprieve,I can live that new way of life we may have thought never possible.Today I am truly grateful and blessed. If you are new or just coming around, welcome,c'mon in from the storm, follow some suggestions and do some work, give yourself a break. If you been around for a few cups of coffee, welcome.we truly know that the drugs are just a part of our addiction, yes they must go first and foremost, but there is a major difference in just becoming abstinent or working recovery. Just For Today, our thoughts will be on our new associations, people who are not using and have found a new way to live, AS LONG AS WE FOLLOW THAT WAY ,WE HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR..Have a blessed and productive day!!smile

Hi Mike,
I remember that stare. I had it.
I was so lost in my own fears that I couldn't see what was right in front of me.
My disease kept me looing inward... constantly...but only seeing dread, anger, and self justification.
What a releif to be free of that all consuming self obsession.
Only through the 12 steps of narcotics anonymous have I found anything resembling peace of mind.
