JFT December 5 Those who want to recover

We have seen the program work for any addict who honestly and sincerely wants to stop [using drugs].

Basic Text, p. 10

=

How do we know when someone honestly and sincerely wants to stop using drugs?  The truth is that we dont know!  Because we cannot read minds or know anothers motives and desires, we simply have to hope for the best.

We may talk to a newcomer at a meeting and think well never see them again, only to find them several years later doing well in their recovery.  We may be tempted to give up on someone who keeps relapsing or doesnt get clean right away, but we must not.  No matter how unwilling someone may seem, a simple fact remainsthe addict is at a meeting.

We may never know the results of our Twelfth Step work; it is not up to us to gauge the willingness of a newcomer.  The message we carry is a part of us.  We carry it everywhere and share it freely, leaving the results to a Power greater than ourselves.

=

Just for today:  I will share my recovery with any addict, anywhere, anytime, and under any circumstances.  I will leave the results to my Higher Power.

This is why i am back here more now or trying to be, so I can share my experience strength and hope plus i need to do more at my home group we have lots of newcomers all the time. its important for us to stay out of self, i felt and did better in my recovery while in service, much less self seeking and selfish thinking, so back to basics.

I'm here for purely selfish reasons, to stay Clean and continue my Journey of Recovery. And of course the paradox is the more I give without expecting anything in return the more I get. smile

Tonight I celebrate life at my homegroup anniversary. Our 12th step tells us we become visions of hope, examples the program,NARCOTICS ANONYMOUS,works and that "our" joy in living clean is an attraction to those still sick and suffering. It is not a magic bullet,it is evidenced by change in our attitudes and behaviors and application of our solution, the steps in all areas of our lives. It is the new understanding of our Higher Power that we develop by sharing recovery with another addict.  Celebrations are wonderful and we share some cake, get a coin and maybe some recognition of our peers but it truly aint about that.It is about being that vision of hope ,that example to the addict still suffering .Our message is hope and our promise is freedom.Tonight I celebrate for all of us whether we have one day or 50 years,we can still carry our message AN ADDICT,ANY ADDICT CAN  STOP USING DRUGS,LOSE THE DESIRE TO USE(A REAL MIRACLE) AND FIND A NEW WAY OF LIFE.I will do,  to the best of my ability, to represent that message.........smilesmile
